Weather: Sunny, warm and breezy
Hash Cash: Early start for longer distance to travel - 11 am run fees Chom Chom, Secs @ Mr. C’s Speakeasy, 3b Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 Total Hashers: 28 Trail: After the early start, we dismounted approx. 90 mins later at the Ray River Irrigation Project dam via Ba Ria and Xuyen Moc, approx 4.5 km (and a lot of deep, fast-flowing water) from our Down Down destination: Thác chính Hoà Bình (Hoa Binh main waterfall). Chalk talk by Chief Stoker, then over the locked gate and mid-way across the overpass we descended 92 steps, helped each other down a makeshift ladder (an old branch), then followed red tapes mostly alongside the Ray River, negotiating a series of obstacles including lower-leg-shredding undergrowth, a new rickety bridge made for oil drums, barbed wire fences, some slippery rocks at the river crossing to the Hoa Binh eco park main waterfall and picnic/camping grounds. Highlights: Helping each other cross the river over the slippery rocks. Swimming in the eco park waterfalls: Junior Hashers and several ‘not so junior’ really enjoyed it (some had practised along the trail already!). Special interest: The Ray River (Sông Ray) starts at Xuan Loc mountain in Dong Nai province, runs through BR-VT’s Dat Do, Long Dien and Xuyen Moc districts and flows into the ocean through Loc An estuary. It plays an important role in supplying water for domestic use and agricultural production of BR-VT province, managed by the Ray River Irrigation Project. Down Down: Thác chính Hoà Bình Mongolian Glamping.Refreshments: Bahn Mi, Ms. Kim’s coffee cake, watermelon slices, pineapple chunks. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: Everyone congratulated for their willingness to help others on an unusually challenging trail. Trail rated 10/10: “Challenging, interesting, different”. Hares Chippy, Chief Stoker, Jolly applauded. Two returnees - mother and son Mary and Minh who had been busy studying. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy. Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (mismanagement can then adjust transport and/or food and drinks if necessary). “On On”

Crossed the quarry, climbed exit boulders then continued steep climb to the summit. Across level area then steeply down over many small rocks. Onto narrow concrete track past cemetery and several houses to complete ‘loop’ to 28 April Street, then turned right and continued ~200 metres to Quan 999. Total distance ~3.5-4km. Highlights: Happy youngsters in village practising English: “Hi, what’s your name?”. Hashers helping each other on vertical climb out of the quarry. Welcome shade and cooling breeze on the hillside beyond the quarry. Lowlights: A lot of Hashers following the wrong trail! However, after a Bull Ant chased after them we were back on the right track. Red marker tapes disappeared from the mountain summit (again!) causing some confusion but clarified by Hares. NÚI CHỨA CHAN, DONG NAI
Hares: Live trail by Chippy, Secs, Bull Ant
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Kelvin Ringmaster: NA Report: Secs
Weather: Sunny, occasional cloud cover, fresh breezes.
Hash Cash: 8 am run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Mr. C’s Speakeasy, Tàu, 3b Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 39 Trail: Two and a half hour bus journey to Khu du lịch núi Chứa Chan. Cable car passes acquired and distributed by Chippy. 10 minute cable car ride to half way point at 470m above sea level. Chalk Talk by Secs: “Follow the well trodden mountain path to the summit at 873m and then return the same way. When you arrive at the cable car station, take a right turn and then follow the multitude of steps back down through many shops, restaurants and temples. Meet back at the carpark no later than 4:30pm” That was the plan, however, as we started to scale the mountain using the usual trail we were diverted to take a newly cut trail through ancient bamboo. This was due to excavation work taking place which appeared to be clearing the way for a new road being built from the bottom of the mountain to the top. This new trail felt a bit longer and certainly a lot tougher than the previous trail. However, our Hasher managed to get the final destination - the height marker nestled in a clearing in the bamboo. The view was missing and the GPS indicated it was only 800m above sea-level instead of the 837m summit before. Highlights:
Circle: As time was against us there was no circle this week. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy pub, 3A Lê Ngọc Hân.Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s trail PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary). “On On”
