21 JULY 2024

MINH DAM / LONG HAI - CAR PARK TO NGỌC XƯƠNG
Hares:  Chippy, Secs
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom
Ringmasters: Chom Chom / Bishop
Report: Secs
Weather: Cloudy, breezy another great week for hiking.
Hash Cash: 1 pm registration with Secs and Bull Ant @ VTH3 Kennel: Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 29
Destination: Khu du lịch sinh thái Ngọc Xương (“Ngoc Xuong eco-tourism lodge”) near base of Định duyên sơn (“Fateful Mountain”) in Long Dien district.
Chalk Talk: Secs: “Take main trail (from Minh Dam parking area) to first shrine and lookout point, then keep following red marker tapes to three more temples… approx 5 km total distance, mostly fairly level”.
Trail: Main trail out of parking area to first commune, shrine and lookout point on edge of Long Hai mountains range, then ‘on on’ to more temples, shrines and lookout points following red tape sometimes up, sometimes down, but rarely very steep until final extended descent to ground level (many hundreds of stone steps, but evenly spaced so relatively painless).
Special interest: Various temples, shrines and lookout points along the trail – always friendly monks.
Down Down: Ngoc Xuong eco lodge 1-2 km through residential area from coffee shop at end of Fateful Mountain steps: Parking for Hashmobile. Public toilets. Excellent venue!
Refreshments: Saigon Chill, softies, water, chicken and sticky rice, water melon, pineapple.
Trail rating: 10. “Excellent trail!”
Hash Virgins: Jessica, Tien
Sinners: Four sinners this week for missing red tapes and a couple, who shall remain nameless because they should’ve known better, returned to the carpark at the start of the trail instead of looking for the red tapes
Circle closed: Garbage bags filled, eskies de-iced and returned to storage at Nắng Vũng Tàu kennel after a pleasant return trip.
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for details of next week’s run.

NUI DINH - RIVERBED TO DI DA SONG PAGODA
Hares:  Chippy, Secs (Live Trail)
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Secs
Ringmasters: Rain stopped play
Report: Secs (Hat tip to Uncle)
Weather: Cool, overcast, heavy rain storm just as the trail finished
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Secs and Chom Chom @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 30
Chalk talk: Secs (edited): “Circular trail down Nui Dinh road 1 km from swimming pool café, then right into jungle and follow red tapes up and around to interesting temple and lookout rocks then cobbled track out of jungle and down Nui Dinh road to start point for Down Down. Total about 4.5 km.”
Trail: Walked downhill from the café then turned right into the jungle and followed a mostly level path through the undergrowth until we crossed a small stream and subsequently changed to a steep upward trajectory littered with big, slippery rocks!
After several short breaks to rest weary legs we finally reached the ancient rock steps to the awesome Chùa Đi Đà Sơn (Di Da Son Pagoda), with its many religious gold-coloured artefacts, caves and lookout rocks with stunning vistas!
Much excitement and many photos later, the trail continued along a partly-paved, undulating track to the Nui Dinh road and downhill to the swimming pool café, dodging traffic and greeting locals on their daily exercise
Highlights: Many ‘golden’ religious artefacts at the Chùa Đi Đà Sơn pagoda and lookout points, aka ‘Magic Mountain’.

Down Down: Bồng Lai Quán (Bong Lai café, hammock and swimming pool rest area).
Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies, pork banh mi, water melon, pineapple.
Circle: Heavy rain stopped play and little time after starting the trail late after heavy traffic jam Long Son Island junction upgrade works.

On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for more details of next week’s run.
PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary).
