Climbed ~650 stone steps through picturesque Ngọc Sơn Dinh temple grounds, then through another temple (with monks offering fruit!) onto Dinh mountain. Followed red tapes (some hidden by fallen trees!) along jungle trail mostly dirt, rocks and leaf litter.
Up and across the mountain over one small stream and a sealed road; past several temples, two burial grounds with ornamental sarcophagi, a tribe of grey monkeys, then a series of long descents with hundreds of stone steps and painted red/yellow handrails back to road level and Down Down area. Total distance ~3 km.
Highlights: Scattered showers but no heavy rain. Picturesque trail, many stone steps but no major rock climbs! Spacious Down Down area.

20 JULY 2025

SNAKE MOUNTAIN - LONG HAI
Hares: Chippy, Secs, Bull Ant
Hash Flashers: Secs (group photo), Chippy
Ringmaster: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Light rain showers at start and finish. No heavy rain.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Bull Ant, Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (Paper Garden restaurant side).
Total Hashers: 18
Trail: Dismounted Hashmobile at Quán Xi Muội (restaurant). Chalk Talk by Secs (edited): “Planned trail changed to avoid a nest of aggressive hornets encountered when setting trail(!). Walk approx 2.5 km along sealed road towards mountain then narrow clay track through trees, long grass and bamboo to jungle trail proper. Follow red ribbons past several religious artefacts, shacks and a small pagoda then ~580 rock steps to ‘snake rock’ lookout. Enjoy views, take photos, then down rock, clay and leaf littered jungle trail with occasional concrete track to long, winding sealed road to Xi Muoi rest area at crossroads. E-distance 7 km.”
Down Down: Quán Xi Muội restaurant, hammocks and flower garden at crossroads with full mountain view.
Refreshments: BBQ beef, noodles, peanuts. Water melon slices. Saigon Bia, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Highlights: Spectacular views from several vantage points around Snake rock. Great Hashing weather.
Circle: Trail rated 7.5, 9, 10/10. “Good/lovely trail”, “Great view”, “Good weather”. Hares Secs, Bull Ant, Chippy applauded. Hash Virgins Tam and Mike (Canada): “Beaut weather. Heard about the Hash from Chippy”. Returnees Andrew, Tina, Hayley Banks (UK): “We did today’s Hash for our brother and Dad” (see Special interest below).
Special interest: Sad news from his brother Andrew and daughters Tina and Hayley that popular long-time VTH3 Hasher Ian ‘Rowdy Water’ Banks passed away peacefully on 8 July after an extended bout of cancer. His Hasher instincts were reportedly alive to the end, with a nurse saying he lost the ability to communicate clearly as his blood count diminished, but made gurgling noises that sounded like “On On”!
Gone but never forgotten… Enjoy your new trail, Rowdy. RIP.
On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy.
Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. If anyone would like to help set trails, please volunteer at registration.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Hashmobile seats allocated in order of registration but CAN’T BE GUARANTEED if booked less than 24 hours before run start. Also PLEASE CANCEL YOUR REGISTRATION if unable to attend, so mismanagement can adjust/re-allocate seating and/or refreshments.

Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Bull Ant, Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (Paper Garden restaurant side).
Total Hashers: 37
Trail: Dismounted Hashmobile at picturesque camping grounds on east side of mountain road before lake turn-off. Chalk Talk by Secs (edited): “Walk 1 km up main road then turn off to right and cross rocks over running stream. Follow red tapes on mostly flat, anti-clockwise jungle trail with several smaller streams and pools and a ‘motorbike fence’ around to the lake. Through lakeside camping grounds and back to main road then downhill to Down Down area. Total distance ~6-7 km.”
Highlights:
  • Hashers helping each other across streams and pools.
  • Swimming and waterfall play in Down Down camping grounds.
  • Hasher’s lost phone ‘miraculously’ found near lake by Chippy’s search party (3 Hashers on a motorbike!).

Refreshments: Steamed chicken, gumbo. Water melon slices, pineapple chunks, lychees. Saigon Bia, Revive, softies, mineral water.
