Weather: Scattered thunderstorms, humid, but rain only at end of trail.

Total Hashers: 36 Trail: Park Hashmobile, start and finish at Down Down area opposite roadside turn-off between bridge and newly sealed extension of mountain road to the lake. Chalk talk by Secs (edited): “Walk a short distance towards the lake then turn right onto pleasant, mostly flat jungle trail. “Cross rocks over mountain stream then circle around to the left and eventually emerge at the lake. “Across road into more jungle opposite the lake. Follow mostly old red tapes on circular trail uphill and around to the right until back at lake. “Follow sealed road downhill to start. Total distance ~5km.” Highlights: Roadside shelter from rain opposite Down Down area. Special interest: A moving Circle (on return bus trip). Down Down: Roadside rest area opposite turn-off to a pagoda and monastery, between bridge and newly sealed extension road to the lake. Refreshments: Patê Sô (VN meat pastries), veg, sushi. Pineapple chunks, water melon, guava. Saigon Red, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: Held on return bus trip to avoid rain. Trail rated 10,10,10/10 ‘Good trail’, ‘Enjoyable’. Weather: Hot, but shade on trail
Hash Cash: ~4.30 pm run fees Secs @ Down Down rest area. Total Hashers: 37 Trail: Loaded the Hashmobile at Nang VT and picked up a dozen more passengers at the Ho Tram Grand. Dismounted outside camping ground on busy coastal road beyond the resort area. Chalk Talk by Secs warned to watch out for traffic on main road at start and finish of trail. After several hundred metres walking back towards Ho Tram we turned off the sealed road and followed mainly old red marker tapes along a flat, winding sandy trail towards higher ground inland. Sand became soil covered by dead leaves and twigs (“duff”), and Hares guided hashers where necessary. The rocks and boulders became more plentiful as we neared the top, and the incline much steeper. Finally, one last scramble over several very large and ‘tricky’ boulders and we’d conquered Xuyen Moc’s Núi Tầm Bồ (Tam Bo mountain): ~100m AGL with panoramic views over the local area and out to sea. Many photos later, we retraced our steps down the mountain and back along the coast road to the Down Down camping ground for refreshments, relaxation, and a cooling swim for some! Total distance ~3 km. Highlights: Superb views and gentle sea breezes at top of Tam Bo mountain lookout. A welcome swim in the Down Down rest area lagoon. Down Down: Camping ground along the coastal road several kilometres beyond Ho Tram resorts. Refreshments: Pork banh mi with veg fillings and dipping sauce. Water melon, pineapple chunks. Saigon Red, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: 10/10 “Top marks”. Hares thanked. Hash Virgins Leanne and Darren (Australia), Hoa (Vung Tau, 71yo) welcomed. Weather: Overcast, hot. Rain showers then clear but humid.
Hash Cash: 9.30 am run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 41 Trail: Early start for a long and interesting day. Own transport and eco-taxis to Vung Tau Inland Waterway Port (ferry terminal) at 127C Tran Phu Street. Ferry to Cần Giờ - Monkey Island mangrove biosphere reserve approx halfway to Ho Chi Minh City. 10-minute bus ride to trail start. Chalk Talk by Secs warned about the often aggressive monkeys (long tailed macaques) that are known to steal anything they can, especially from children. Follow trail to view saltwater crocodiles then longer walk to model guerilla base; then back to start. Bus to beach for Down Down, then terminal for ferry to Vung Tau and eco-taxis to Nang VT then home via optional ‘one for the road’ at Mr C’s. Highlights:
Down Down: Rest area next to Can Gio beach. Refreshments: Chicken drumstick, rice, fillings, dipping sauce. Water melon, pineapple chunks. Saigon Red, softies, mineral water. Circle: 10.10/10, “Very interesting”, “Different”. BIG MOUNTAIN - POWER LINES AND WATERFALL TRAIL

Weather: Hot and sunny at the beginning turning to overcast towards the end. Thankfully no rain
Hash Cash: 1 pm registration with Secs and Bull Ant @ VTH3 Kennel: Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 35 Destination: Big mountain power line trail combined with waterfall trail Chalk Talk: Secs: “A semi-live trail familiar to most people. Leave Nang and walk up Le Ngoc Han to Hem 105, turn right on to Vi Ba for a ~200m before turning into the jungle. Follow the trail to the start of the power lines climb after that follow the trail back up to Vi Ba and them come back down from Chùa Bồ Đề temple to Tran Phu and back to Giấy (Paper) Garden café. Total distance about 5km” Trail: An easy enough start until we reached the daunting start of the power lines. After an arduous climb under the hot sun we were rewarded with the spectacular views of Vung Tau. From then on it was a pleasant and relatively easy trek through verdant jungle and finally back to Nang / Giấy (Paper) Garden café Down Down: Giấy (Paper) Garden café Refreshments: Egg salad, duck slices, ‘shaking chicken’ (gà lúc lắc), hot chips(!), fried rice; pineapple chunks, water melon; Saigon Red, softies, mineral water. Trail rating: 10. "Beautiful trail!" Circle: 4 virgins and only 2 returnees! Next week: An all day excursion to Monkey Island at Cần Giờ.
