22 DECEMBER 2024

HỒ TRÀM - NÚI TẦM BỒ
Hares: Secs, Chippy (live trail)
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom
Baptism sprinkles: Bishop

Ringmaster: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Overcast, cool, no rain.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (on Lam Son side of the building near parking area and new storage shed).
Total Hashers: 51
Trail: Loaded the Hashmobile at Nang VT, past a growing number of resorts in Ho Tram and dismounted outside ‘Trai 584’, one of several camping grounds on the busy coastal road to Binh Chau.
Chalk Talk by Secs warned to watch out for road traffic at start and finish of trail.
Most walked (some ran) approx 500 metres back towards Ho Tram then turned into bushland and followed scattered old red, red & white, and purple marker tapes along a flat, winding sandy trail through trees and shrubbery towards higher ground inland.

Sand became soil as we continued along the jungle trail heading slowly upwards until the boulders became bigger and more plentiful as we neared the summit lookout rocks.
One last scramble over several very large boulders – aided by some strategically placed and very welcome knotted string – and we’d reached the summit of Núi Tầm Bồ (Tam Bo mountain): ~100m AGL with panoramic views over the local area and ocean.
Many photos later, we retraced our steps down the mountain (some carrying litter from the lookout rocks), back through the trees then along the coast road to Trai 584 for savoury pies, fruit, drinks, socialising and the mandatory group photo and Circle against a stunning sunset. Total distance ~3 km.

Highlights: Superb views and gentle sea breezes at top of Tam Bo mountain lookout.
Down Down: ‘Trai 584’ camping ground along the coastal road several kilometres beyond Ho Tram resorts.
Refreshments: Patê Sô (savoury VN pies). Water melon slices, pineapple chunks. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Circle: Trail rated 9,10,10/10. “Beautiful weather”, “Very good trail”, “Loved it!”. Hares Secs and Chippy applauded.
8 Hash Virgins from Vietnam, Australia, England and USA welcomed and ‘baptised’ by Bishop.
Returnees Fletcher and Chuck Chuck welcomed back from working in the UK.
Thanks to Circle Helper David.
CIRCLE ANNOUNCEMENT: End of Year (EOY) party Sunday, 29 Dec @ Giấy Garden Restaurant, Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân. 15 DECEMBER 2024

NÚI DINH: SUỐI TIÊN-SUỐI ĐÁ
Hares: Chippy, Chief Stoker, Jolly
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom
Baptism sprinkles: Bishop

Ringmaster: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Ideal Hashing weather: cloudy, cool, no rain!
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (on Lam Son side of the building near parking area and new storage shed).
Total Hashers: 21 (some late withdrawals didn’t realise the Hash runs in any weather, and expected rain never happened anyway!)
Trail: Dismounted Hashmobile between bridge and lake on Dinh mountain. Chief Stoker’s Chalk Talk emphasised “Follow many red tapes and beware slippery moss-covered concrete”. We entered jungle from roadside and followed red tapes up narrow corrugated concrete pagoda access track, steep in parts. Then undulating jungle trail with often dense leaf litter to marked turn-off and first lookout point for views and photos. Back to turn-off and continued following red tapes along rocky jungle trail past several small shrines to second lookout rocks for mountain views and photos. Then fairly steep in parts mostly downhill rocky steps following Suối Tiên (Fairy Stream) past five signposted rockpools including Suối Đá (Stone Stream) camping grounds and out to parking area on exit/access track for Down Down. Total distance ~4km.
Highlights: 100% jungle trail, some uphill but mostly level or downhill with cool breeze and no rain (despite expectations to the contrary), so we enjoyed an unexpectedly pleasant, often interesting and not overly strenuous trail!
Lowlights: Thirsty mosquitos in Down Down area.
Down Down: Parking area gazebos on exit track from rockpools after several roadside stalls.

Refreshments: Chicken drumsticks, sticky rice, non-viscous gravy (negligible viscosity, tasty!). Water melon slices, pineapple chunks. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water

Circle: Trail rated 8.5, 9.5, 10/10. “Very good”, “Great trail”, “Loved it!”. Hares Chippy, Chief Stoker, Jolly applauded. No Hash Virgins. Returnees Hot Dog (aka Perro Caliente), Suction Cup, daughter Puk Puk and partner Guy all welcomed back from UK.
Official reminder for End of Year party at Giấy Garden (Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân) starting 7 pm, 29 December (after a local trail on Big Mountain and time to get changed) with a meal, live music and more! Details and registration link to follow soon, so please note the date!
On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy.
Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run.
PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (mismanagement can then adjust transport and/or food and drinks if necessary).

LONG HAI - MINH DAM MOUNTAIN
Hares: Secs, Bull Ant, Chippy (Live trail)
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom
Baptism sprinkles: Bishop

Ringmaster: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Overcast, humid. No rain.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (on Lam Son side of the building near parking area and new storage shed).
Total Hashers: 41
Trail: Dismounted Hashmobile off-road in Long Hai. Walked several hundred metres along lane then Chalk talk (Secs). Continued up steep rocky trail and 1,000+ steps to first pagoda with several shrines and lookout rocks with great views.
Many photos, then continued over jungle trail with scattered dry bamboo to the second pagoda: more shrines, altars, lookout rocks, great views and photos.
Final downhill hike on mostly corrugated concrete to Minh Dam Base parking area. Total distance approx 4.5 km.
Highlights: Spectacular views from lookout rocks at both pagodas.
Lowlights: Many monkeys in Down Down area, including one that used the branches above a group of Hashers as a toilet!
Special interest (1): “Minh Dam mountain reaches 355 meters and extends eight kilometers. The mountains were renamed in 1948 after Minh and Dam, two revolutionary martyrs in the liberation troops.” https://vietnamtourism.gov.vn/en/post/1676
Special interest (2): Most Hashers savvy enough to ignore the monkeys, but not all. So Bishop loudly reinforced rule #1 to help avoid any mishaps: “Don’t feed the monkeys!” (better late than never!).
Down Down: Minh Dam Base parking area.
Refreshments: BBQ pork, rice noodles, veg, peanuts and dip. Water melon slices, pineapple chunks. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Circle: Trail rated 10,10,10/10. “Very happy”, “Superb”, “Magnificent”. Hares Secs, Bull Ant, Chippy applauded.
6 Hash Virgins/Visitors welcomed and sprinkled, including ‘Trouble’ from KL/Hanoi H3, 1 France, 4 Vung Tau.
5 Returnees welcomed back (4 “working”, 1 “studying”).
Thanks to Circle helper David.
CIRCLE ANNOUNCEMENT (EN and VN): “Another reminder that a special ‘End of year’ feast with live music from popular VN artists Echo Tune, etc is booked at Nang Vung Tau on 29 December evening. More details to follow, but the date is confirmed.”
