Hares: Chippy, Debbie
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom, Mr. Chi Ringmasters: N/A (see “Circle” below) Report: Uncle
Weather: Hot, high broken cloud. Shady trail.
Hash Cash: 11 am run fees Secs, Chom Chom @ Nắng Vũng Tàu Giấy Garden café restaurant, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 27 Trail: Early start for trip to Phu My. Dismount Nui Thi Vai. Chalk Talk Chippy (VN/EN edited): “Welcome to VTH3 run 1117. Go 300m along road then left onto the mountain. Follow red tapes up, around and back down to start point. Total distance ~5 km.” Jungle trail well-marked with red ribbons. The higher the trail, the more challenging it became. Finally reached the 200+ rock steps to the first of several lookout points at the top! All the usual selfies and wefies were taken, then we crossed the summit and followed another rocky, duff-covered trail down to 1,340 winding granite steps with handrails to the finish at Lower Temple gate with Down Down rest area nearby. Highlights: Music from solar-powered units amongst the rocks near the summit. Awesome views from different lookout points. Water and herbal drinks courtesy friendly monks along the trail. Friendly banter with other groups on the trail. Special interest: Three sacred pagodas over 100 years old: Linh Son Lien Tri Temple (Lower Temple), Linh Son Hong Phuc Temple (Middle Temple), and Linh Son Buu Thien Temple (Upper Ancestral Temple). Also a huge ‘sky gate’ (aka Heavenly Gate) behind the upper temple: two 7-8m vertical rocks in the middle of a small path. Refreshments: Sticky rice and chicken drumsticks with veg fillings and dipping sauce. Water melon, bananas. Saigon Chill, softies, mineral water. Circle: Timed out in preference to hammocks and casual socializing after such an arduous, challenging trail. Informal Circle held on return Hashmobile as follows: Trail ratings: 10,10/10. “Difficult”. “Very difficult but I did it!”. Hasher of the week: Hash virgin Phong, who showed a willingness to help from loading the bus to helping fellow Hashers struggle over large rocks at the summit. Hash family of the week: Yoga trainer Nhung and delightful children Tony (7yo), “Champion climber” Annie (4yo), and little sister Emma (2yo) who conquered the entire mountain on her mum’s back! Special mention: Returnees Thanh and Phuong. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy pub, 3A Lê Ngọc Hân. Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary). “On On”
