BIG MOUNTAIN  - HAPPY TRAIL, HEM 444

Weather: Humid, scattered cloud, no rain.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 33
Trail: Small beer truck, 3 eco-carts and own transport to start point at Ngọc Dung restaurant, 77-79 Trần Phú, Ward 5. Chalk talk by Secs and Chippy. Walk several hundred metres along Tran Phu to Vo Van Kiet school and Happy Trail (named by local Harriette Mountain Shrimp several years ago). Over the rocks and stones onto Big Mtn then up past bunkers and follow dirt trail to Hem 444 near the French cannons. Follow red marker tapes past ‘underground torpedo’ site and continue along Hem 444 through two residential areas to turn-off into jungle for short but challenging rock-strewn track upto small altar above steps down to Hưng Thắng Tự temple at 112 Trần Phú. Descend 635 steps and across the road for Down Down at Ngọc Dung. Total distance ~6 km.
Highlights: Old French cannons and underground torpedo site. Views of shipyard (north) and Vung Tau Bay (south) in bright sunshine on alternate sides of the trail.
Down Down: Ngọc Dung restaurant, 77-79 Tran Phu (downstairs, beachfront).
Refreshments: Pork banh mi with veg fillings. Water melon, pineapple chunks. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Circle: Trail rated 10+/10. “Excellent trail”. Hares Secs and Chippy applauded. Hash Virgins Chris (Darwin), Binh (Vung Tau - studying RMIT, HCMC), Ms Dung and Mr Ngọc Hoà (Quy Nhon) and Visitors I Choked Linda Lovelace and Sex on the Beach (SH3) welcomed. Sinners Ms Lan and Ms Huệ outed (“Followed white marker tapes instead of red”). Baptismal sprinkles by Bishop.
