NUI DINH - HELIPAD
Hares: Chippy, Secs (live trail)
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom Baptismal sprinkles: Bishop Ringmaster: Chom Chom Report: Uncle
Weather: Strong wind, broken cloud. Cool breeze.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (on Giay Garden side). Total Hashers: 31 Trail: Disembarked 34-seater bus with new driver at roadside camping ground opposite sugar cane seller’s rest area at entry to monastery access road. Walked ~500 metres along sealed access road for Chalk Talk by Secs (edited): “Into the jungle from here, ~4 km total distance, not too tough. Live trail so follow red tapes and Secs, Chippy or Bull Ant to helipad rocks and enjoy the views, take photos. Then different descent route to finish where we started.” We followed old and new marker tapes along rock-strewn, duff-covered ascent (long climb and many rocks near the top but not overly difficult), then gathered on lookout rocks with marked compass bearings from wartime ‘dust-offs’. Many photos and other lookout rocks nearby, then steep, rock-strewn descent through often dense bamboo canopy and dry stream bed over duff and scree to street level, past monastery and followed sealed road to camping ground (A-A). Highlights: Ideal Hashing weather. Young entrepreneur selling cheap drinks with shady seating next to helipad rock. HV Nic’s ‘boozy welcome’ continued on return bus trip: “Mot, Hai, Ba, Yo!” Down Down: Camping grounds between bridge and lake opposite monastery access road. Borrowed chairs and tables from sugar cane seller across the road. Refreshments: Chicken drumsticks, sticky rice, veg, dip. Water melon slices, pineapple chunks, various donated fruits. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: Trail rated 10,10,10/10. “Wonderful”, “Good but bit tough”, “Loved it”. Hares Secs and Chippy applauded. Hash Virgin Nicola (“Nic”) welcomed from Bristol, UK (“Planning to return in October.”). German Visitor Sausagehead welcomed from Pattaya Hash (“Best Vung Tau Hash ever.”). Bishop’s baptismal sprinkles returned by Nic! Thanks to Circle helper David. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy. Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (mismanagement can then adjust transport and/or food and drinks if necessary). “On On”
