Weather: Partly sunny turned overcast then rain. Very cool.
Hash Cash: 9.30am run fees Bull Ant, Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 (Paper Garden restaurant side).
Total Hashers: 59
Trail: 9.30am start for a long and interesting day! Own transport and taxis via traffic jams to Vung Tau Inland Waterway Port (ferry terminal) at 127C Tran Phu. Ferry to Cần Giờ - Monkey Island mangrove biosphere reserve approx halfway to Ho Chi Minh City. 10-minute bus ride to trail start at Rừng Sác (mangrove forest) entrance. Chalk Talk by Secs (EN) and Chippy (VN) warned about aggressive monkeys (long tailed macaques) that are known to steal anything they can. Followed trail to view saltwater crocodiles then shared shelter from rain with monkeys and mosquitos(!) before longer walk to guerilla base model; then back to start. Total distance ~5km. Bus to nearby Ky Nam resort for Down Down, then back to terminal for ferry to Vung Tau.
Highlights:

• Salt water crocodiles ‘resting’ in the mangrove swamps.
  
• Intricate models of Viet Cong guerilla camps and related wartime activity, some with audio visual support.
  
• Animated socialising on the bus and ferry rides!
  
• Regular Hasher Nhung’s birthday celebration (cake).
  
• 16 Hash Virgins welcomed (VTH3 record?).
  
• Landscape view of ‘VTH3’s mountains’ on return trip: Thi Vai, Nui Dinh, Long Hai, Long Son, Big Mtn, Small Mtn.

Down Down: Ky Nam resort (near beach).
Refreshments: Chicken drumstick and rice or Bánh Patê Sô (savoury meat pasties). Water melon slices, pineapple chunks. Saigon Bia, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Circle: Trail rated 10,10/10 “Very interesting”. Hare/organiser Chippy deservedly congratulated. 16 Hash Virgins welcomed and 5 Returnees welcomed back by Ringmaster-in-training David.
