Weather: Overcast. Light rain on return trip.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Chom Chom @ Mr C’s Speakeasy, 3b Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 18
Trail: Dismounted outside campsite previously known as #584, now renamed Nha Go Camping, on the busy coastal road to Binh Chau, several km past the Grand, Ho Tram.
Chalk Talk by Secs reminded everyone to watch for heavy traffic before turning off-road approx 500 metres back towards Ho Tram. Followed mainly old trail and marker tapes along a flat, winding sandy track through trees and shrubbery towards higher ground inland.
Soil, tree roots and pooled water gradually replaced sand as we continued upwards until the boulders became bigger and more plentiful as we neared the summit lookout rocks.
Finally over some very large boulders – aided by well-placed knotted string from previous hikers – and we’d reached the summit of Núi Tầm Bồ (Tam Bo mountain): ~100m AGL with panoramic views over the local area and ocean. Many photos then reverse trail back to campsite for Down Down. Total distance ~2.5km.
Highlights: Good Hashing weather. Shared raincoats “just in case”. Great views. Mutual assistance over the bigger rocks. Beach play after Down Down. More of Ms Kim’s delicious mooncakes.
Down Down: ‘Nha Go Camping’ on the coastal road to Binh Chau several kilometres beyond The Grand resort (Ho Tram).
Refreshments: BBQ pork banh mi with mixed veg and dip. Water melon slices, pineapple chunks, mooncakes. Bia Saigon, Revive, softies, mineral water.
Circle: Trail rated 10,10,10.5/10. Hares Chippy and Secs applauded. Hash Virgins Jim and Bloy (Thailand) welcomed. Returnee Soggy Bottom (teaching, house fire, Grab bike injury) welcomed back.
