NÚI DINH – SUỐI TIÊN
Hares: Secs, Bull Ant, Chippy (live trail)
Hash Flashers: Chom Chom (group photo), Chippy Asset Wrangler: Chook Ringmaster: David Report: Uncle
Weather: Hot, but mostly shady trail; no rain.
Hash Cash: 1pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Mr C’s Speakeasy, 3b Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 30 Trail: Passed Ba Ria on highway 51 and turned right past the ‘Historic relics Dinh mountain’ sign after ~5 km. Dismounted at end of long parallel road aka ‘temple boulevard’ near mountain base. Chalk talk by Secs included reminder that it’s a live trail so wait for the Hares if you’re not sure of the way (unlike last time when 5 Hashers wrongly followed one of the many unmarked side trails on Dinh mountain). Climb 466 stone steps with red/yellow handrails through Tô Đình Lính Sơn aka ‘monkey temple’ and turn right onto jungle trail after another 60 stone steps. Wait for Hares and/or right turn at crossroads for viewpoint and photo ops at lookout rocks, then back to crossroads and follow live hares, red marker ribbons and occasional printed signs across the mountain on mix of dirt and corrugated concrete tracks past several smaller temples and hillside dwellings to finally emerge onto Nui Dinh main sealed access road. Then several hundred metres downhill and across road bridge to row of coffee shops marking Suối tiên rest area (Fairy stream). Help to unload photo banner, refreshments, etc and carry down 60+ steps, across footbridge and onto rocks for Down Down. Total distance ~3.5km. Highlights: ‘Back to nature’ with several hillside dwellings having not only the usual dogs but also a plentiful supply of wild cats and hens. Several junior and not so junior Hashers enjoyed the fast-flowing Fairy stream cascading over rocks at Down Down. Hot dogs, lemon sponge cakes courtesy Ms Kim – yum yum! Former Ringmaster-in-training ‘David’ now fully fledged Ringmaster doing an excellent job by adding his individual flair to Circle business – On On! Special interest: One nameless Hash stalwart proved that fully loaded eskies can skate downhill under their own power and still only sustain minimal damage! He also proved orange juice is a good substitute for water in the Hash Circle and an esky load of unopened beer cans will stay afloat when dropped several metres into fast-flowing streams… Now THAT’S a busy day! Down Down: Fairy stream rocks (Suối Tiên). Refreshments: Ham and veg banh mi, hot dogs. Lemon sponge cake, water melon slices, pineapple chunks. Saigon Bia, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: Trail rated 9/10 “Very good”. Hares Secs, Chippy, Bull Ant applauded. Hash Virgin Nattawat (Thailand, working in Vung Tau) welcomed. Returnees Andrew (‘Rear Admiral’); ‘mother, daughter & son’ family Hoa, Maya & Minh; Sausage head (Pattaya Hash); Adzura (HCMC) and Hien (VT but usually works Sundays) welcomed back. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy. Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. If anyone would like to help set trails, please volunteer at registration. PLEASE REMEMBER: Hashmobile seats allocated in order of registration but CAN’T BE GUARANTEED if booked less than 24 hours before run start. Also PLEASE CANCEL YOUR REGISTRATION if unable to attend, so mismanagement can adjust/re-allocate seating and/or refreshments. “On On”
