Total Hashers: 39 Trail: Dismounted Hashmobile on highway 55 in An Nhất, Long Điền, at famous local restaurant Bánh Hỏi An Nhứt for Chalk Talk by Secs (edited): “Walk several hundred metres along busy highway, carefully avoid traffic, turn left at red tape into rice fields and follow circular route, coming back into the village from behind the restaurant. Total distance ~7km.” Highlight 1: Fashionable harriettes wearing áo bà ba (short shirts popular in southwestern VN countryside, worn with long silk trousers) and nón lá (conical hats). Highlight 2: Feasting on local delicacy bánh hỏi after strolling through the rice fields taking photos, watching kites (not drones!), wondering where all the ducks have gone, and swapping greetings with friendly farmers as their tractors lay mud trails between rice fields (not laid by buffalo as previously thought!). Highlight 3: The only mountains we saw all day were on the horizon. The trail was culturally interesting, truly ‘sedate’ and a very welcome difference for VTH3! Special interest 1: An Nhất is listed in official census documents by its original name: An Nhứt. It’s a rural commune and village in Long Điền district, BR-VT with a population of 3,928 in an area of 5.981 km² (pop. density 656.7/km²), according to latest (2009) census statistics. Special interest 2: Bánh hỏi is rice vermicelli woven into intricate layers and served with chopped scallions and garlic chives sauteed in oil, served with sliced cucumber, carrots and diced meat ‘fingers’. Down Down: Bánh Hỏi An Nhứt restaurant – an incredibly popular eatery established more than 30 years ago, hence still using original commune spelling An Nhứt i/o today’s An Nhất. Refreshments: Bánh hỏi, water melon, pineapple chunks. Saigon Bia, Revive, softies, mineral water. Circle: Relocated to entrance to the night market for more space since the restaurant was very busy. Trail rated 10+/10. “Excellent trail”. Hares Secs, Chippy and Bull Ant thanked. Virgins: Ms. Lotus from Vung Tau (first trail was last week but missed the circle); and Sam from South Africa (friend of Royce)welcomed. Returnees Pineapple Bill who’d been back in Ireland and Ms. Nga welcome back On on on: Mr. C’s Speakeasy Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the mismanagement committee can then adjust the transport and/or meal order if necessary). “On On”
