We welcome and wish for all Hashers both present at the run and away a “Happy Running New Year”. We welcomed 33 Hashers who join this Tet run, compare to last year which only 16. We all gathered at Hon Ru Ri at 14:00 P.M. as the coffee shop open to welcome many customers who bring in luck and good fortune to the complex. We start follow the Hare Dr Who, who will lead Hashers to Vi Ba street to start his Chalk-Talk. There, he said everyone will start at M90 trail and when you reach the plateau crossroads (aka "Blondie's corner"), co-Hare Blondie will lead anyone to take the shorter trail while the rest can continue to the Waterfall trail and do two trails combined. Then, it is “On On” to M90 trail; at this time, Basil will help out at the back group since we have 2 new Hashers from Australia who learned about the Hash online, Owen and Eve Evans. As we reached the plateau crossroads, Blondie now led Hashers who want to take the shorter trail and Basil will lead the others to continue to the Waterfall trail. We realize someone has cleaned out all the tall grass as we enter spring, there is no hot weather or rain today, it is a perfect day for the Hash to embrace Tet! The last group has finally come to the road, and we all walk down to the Sugar Cane juice stall for more relax time, then on back to Vi Ba. At this time, Basil will lead the back group to take the short cut through White Villa to save more time and reach Hon Ru Ri at 16:30 P.M. After some refreshment from our major sponsor San Miguel, Basil call the team photo, then the Circle. After the welcome message and congrats to Hash Virgins for completing today’s trail, we welcomed the Hares Dr Who and Blondie, and Uncle who can’t be here today. Mister Kim will rate the trail: a solid “10/10” for New Year Trail, because the trail is challenging enough. Well done Hares! We then welcomed the Hash Virgins, Mr Hai introduced by Ms Dien, and Quynh Anh introduced by her brother, our today’s Hash Flash Mr Tu Anh aka Anthony. Unfortunately, 2 new Hashers Owen and Eve said their goodbyes to the Hash before the Circle since they have other business to attend; hopefully we will see them again. We welcome back Returnees: Black Hawk with his excuse “Leg injury but still go for Hash” and our former Hash Flash Fot tret's excuse “Follow her husband” and her husband Illia's excuse is “Lazy”. Another Returnee, Kojak, disappeared back to work before he was called into the Circle (Down Down next time for absenteeism)! Today is Tet, so instead of Sinners we nominated “Saints” who contribute or doing good deed to the Hash into the Circle and they get the free beer. Mother Teresa with food and Ice Water for always helpful with the drink preparation. Thank you to both of them! And also announcement to the other Hashers who didn’t join last week’s run: because of changed circumstances, VTH3 will not now be joining SH3 and PH3 on the 19th March as earlier proposed; but if anyone is interested, they can check out SH3’s website for more details about that run. With next week we still at Tet; we're hoping all the stores will be reopened before that, but Mismanagement can't take responsibility for things like no plastic cups! And no Hares volunteered to set a new trail so we will re-use some of today’s combo trail; please check the website NEXT RUN box for updates. We’ll meet again next Sunday as usual at Hon Ru Ri, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start. On On! VTH3 #770 PHOTO GALLERY GPS trace of run #770 combo-trails courtesy co-Hare Uncle

Hares Flying Finn and Skipper led from the front as we hiked across town to Phan Chu Trinh Hem 220 for the chalk-talk, then it was up the hem, around the corner and a sharp right onto a tiny path through the grass towards the familiar dense undergrowth on Mount Tao Phung (“Jesus Hill”). The familiar cries of “On On” were heard as we made our way up the mountain and around the southern side towards the Lighthouse, as everyone did their best to keep the pack together. The route varied slightly in the middle, where we scrambled up a slope onto the road – then another 300 metres flat road before we started climbing upwards again, eventually reaching the Lighthouse where many tourists were enjoying the views over Vung Tau City and Back Beach. Then it was another hike back across Front Beach to Hon Ru Ri and the red eskies with cold drinks to wash down the snacks, and fruit donated by Hope Solo. The sky began to darken after everyone had arrived back from the trail, so a returned Basil donned the chain of office over his “civvies” and called for the team photo, which was “invaded” by a friendly visitor (see below). The Circle convened after the photo and FRB Terminator was nominated to rate the trail, with Russian-English translation by Blondie. “Very good trail, full marks!” (or words to that effect): 10/10! Hash Virgins John (introduced by Vagabond) and Anthony (Ms Thuy) introduced themselves and were welcomed with the Vung Tau Hash song. Then returnees Dr Who and Blondie who said they’ve been travelling; and Uncle who said he was with them(!) Only one sinner charged this week: Uncle gave some buttons to Skipper so he could keep his shirt fastened properly in the Circle! Then Basil announced that the proposed joint run with Saigon and Pattaya Hashers won’t now go ahead as originally planned, so anyone who wants to join them on 19 March should keep an eye on the SH3 website for further information. Basil also reminded everyone that he won’t be available on 29 January due family commitments for the Tet holiday, and Suction Cup has volunteered to help organize things on the day. Uncle volunteered to mark two local trails: Waterfall and M90, but also won’t be here on the 29th because of family commitments during Tet. So we need someone who knows the Waterfall and/or M90 trails to volunteer as Live Hare next Sunday. STOP PRESS (Thursday 26 Jan): Uncle, Dr Who and Blondie have marked both trails on Big Mountain. Uncle won't be here on Sunday but Dr Who and Blondie, plus Perro Caliente who also knows the trails, will be the Hares. Trail will start with M90, and those who opt for the shorter distance can leave the mountain at the halfway mark, with others continuing on the Waterfall trail (another half-hour). We’ll meet again next Sunday as usual at Hon Ru Ri, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start - in any weather! On On! VTH3 #769 PHOTO GALLERY

Live Hares: Basil, Samson Hash Flash: Geronimo Ringmasters: SamSon, Basil Report: Basil As we entered the third week of 2017, a sudden foretold weather that Vung Tau will be drenched in tropical rain; it is not a storm however, but raining non-stop for 6–8 hours. But today, none of that happened and we welcomed 26 Hashers that arrived at Hon Ru Ri on time; then we picked up Terminator’s family (5+1) on the way and 2 visitors from Saigon Hash plus their kid waiting at Minh Dam welcome gate making a total of 35 (the SH3 visitors were in the area so joined us for the run but couldn’t stay for the Circle). Then SamSon go up the mountain with the bus to set the trail while Basil lead the group to the base of the mountain and start his chalk-talk. The trail starts at the step of stairs and walk up to the cement road, once Hasher coming out the jungle on the cement road, we turn right and go up to the car park then we go up all the way to the top where the nun/monks houses are, then took some photo and headed down to the car park again for the Down Down once they finish. Then “On-On” to the stairs as Basil led the way with Junior Hasher Messi coming along. All the rain has made the trees and grass grow and made the stairs a little difficult to walk through, but nothing stop Hashers to face this challenge. Once we coming out the jungle, we can breathe easy and walk our own pace to save energy for another mountain walking. But as soon as we reach the car park, we realize the trail mark by SamSon turn to another trail; so instead of walking to the nun/monks houses, we walked to the Historical Museum trail which also has a good view. It was clearly a misunderstanding between SamSon and Basil, but for safety, we all follow SamSon’s trail as now the rain has started but not so heavy. We walk past the museum and to the historical site, where some Hashers spot a monkey and decided to take some photos. Then we all follow the renovated road to the flag pole of the historical site (see photo) with all beautiful views (more photos). Then when we headed down, the Live Hare SamSon set another way to go through the temple and finally back down to the carpark where our sponsor San Miguel’s products were nicely chilled. At this time, we must say goodbye to our visitors from Saigon Hash, but we all kept the beautiful moment in our hearts and in our cameras. After some Russian food and vodka provided by Mother Teresa, we were surprised to find out that last week was Terminator’s birthday so we all congrats him with vodka. When it is time for our group photo, we quickly took so many with different cameras by many Hashers. It is time SamSon don the chain of office and started the Circle. After a welcome message we welcome the Hares Basil and SamSon in the Circle and our visitor Dirtimak from Bali Hash 2 in the Circle to rate the trail. “A nice family friendly Hash that he felt welcome and different than other Hashes; the trail went to the mountains which have many history and stories that are fantastic,” he wish to give it full marks but give 8/10 because one Hasher that he wished to exchange phone numbers with didn’t give him her number! Then we welcomed Hash Virgins Ms Ha and Mr Kien, introduced by Ms Kieu Anh and one is her friend while the other is her classmate (Basil posted the Hash flyer to introduce English learning students to both learning and exercising). Hash welcome song performed both by SamSon and Basil. Then welcome back Returnees, Suction Cup with excuse of “helping her daughter”, Big Bird “travel to Tay Ninh”, Tiny Tim and Peach Melba for “working” and Junior Hashers Messi and Ronaldo “study for the exam”. We then welcomed Visitor Dirtimak, dressed in Scottish style and Scotland Flag as a cape, to Circle to introduce himself, he is from Bali Hash 2; why, because Bali has two Hash, there is a reason which he couldn’t tell with family friendly Hash but ask Hashers to support Bali Hash 2 when they visit Bali for event runs. He also tells one joke as a present to the wonderful Vung Tau Hashers. First Sinner was Dirtimak for inappropriate footwear; he also nominated Rita for lying to him that today is her first Hash; and Messi nominated Skipper and Flying Finn for going the wrong way, so Down Down for them all. We once again welcomed Messi in the Circle, because he wishes for name change and Visitor Dirtimak name him “Ice Man” because he like to splash ice on Hashers. So Ice Water got a friend now and his name is “Ice Man”! Today surprise nominated by Peach Melba that tomorrow is Super Teen’s 16th birthday, so we all sing “Happy Birthday” to her. Announcement for this year’s joint run: it seems Saigon Hash has started spreading the news to their Hashers and many have signed up for the event and they all eager to do our joint run together. Whatever the trail is like, on the 19th March, everyone must gather at Hon Ru Ri because we can’t pick up everyone in different places since we won’t have the time. Announcement for the Tet run 29th January: SamSon will leave to Ha Noi and will be absent for 2 weeks and Basil too will be absent on Tet and we need someone to keep the Hash running, even with less people and live hares on a Local Trail. We have volunteer to help on the 29th January, Suction Cup and many others will keep the Hash running. No announcement for next week’s run yet, but it could be a local trail because buses are difficult to find during the Tet holiday period. STOP PRESS: Confirmation now received that Flying Finn and Skipper will set a new trail for next Sunday (22 January) on Small Mountain, from Jesus statue hill (more correctly known as Mount Thao Phung) to Lighthouse - they also confirm the trail is enjoyable but not difficult: definitely NO rock climbing! See NEXT RUN box for details. We’ll meet again next Sunday as usual at Hon Ru Ri, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start - in any weather! On On! VTH3 #768 PHOTO GALLERY

Happy Russian Orthodox Christmas! 08 January 2017 LONG SON ISLAND - "Oyster farms and a bit more..." Hares: Mr Kim, Ice Water. Additional Hare: Basil Hash Flash: Shaky. Additional photos: Ms Hang Ringmaster: Basil Report: Basil Our second 25th year run attracted 37 Hashers to Hon Ru Ri at 2 pm, including lots of Hash Virgins who came with their friends. We loaded on to our Hashmobile and off to Long Son Island; on the way, we noticed a lot of traffic policemen doing their duty on the highway (which will get very busy soon in the lead-up to the Tet holidays). We stopped at Son Thuy local restaurant near the oyster farms, and Mr Kim gave the chalk-talk; however, it seems the trail might be a bit short, so Basil stepped in to “save the day” and extend the trail as a live hare. Hashers followed Basil’s live hare trail past a few open areas, then a dirt road through the village with barking dogs. We kept shouting “On On” to keep everyone on track, and passed a few village kids playing hide and seek who stopped to watch the Hashers going by. We finally came out the dirt track to the cement road, then all the way down to pass our Hashmobile and turn to the “Down Down” restaurant and our ice cold San Miguels waiting. After refreshments and some tasty local chicken, Basil started the team photo and then called the Circle. After a welcome message, he brought in the Hares, Mr Kim and Ice Water, and “Grandma Rita” rated Basil’s trail as 9/10 and Geoff rated the Hares 9/10 for the confusion. We welcomed Hash Virgins, Ms Kieu Anh who read the Hash Flyer at her language school; Mike, Valentina and Lela from Russia (both ladies work at Vietsovpetro); Ms Diep’s brother Mr Trinh and his son Lam; and Ms Hang who joined the Hash because of Returnee Robert. “Welcome Hash Virgins” song was sung by Basil. Then we welcomed Returnees Tiger with excuse: “Work”, Ms Loan: “Holiday”, Geoff: “Jail everywhere”, Robert: “Holiday”, Titanic: “Lazy”, D&G: “Injured leg”, Geronimo: “Working” and, last but not least, Shaky: “New born baby”! And Vagabond charged Ice Water as a Sinner for confusion with the trail; but Shaky took the Down Down because the last time he got lost on the trail with his group at Monkey Pagoda and they missed the Down Downs! Also, Mr Kim was called to the Circle for his Hash name given for setting the trail. But most in the Circle thought “Mr Kim” is already his Hash Name, so we finally decided his Hash name is “Mister Kim”! Announcement for Lunar New Year on Saturday 28/1 and Basil have to ask the Circle that any Hasher that didn’t go on holiday must keep the Hash running, even with less people. But the trail must be a local one since it will be difficult or impossible to hire a bus during the first three days of the “Tet” holiday. And finally, Vagabond wanted next week’s trail to be an away run, but Basil couldn’t promise anything until he’s checked for bus hire, and might also need someone to give him a drive to set an away trail unless he can make it another Live Hare run. Mr Kim volunteered to give Basil a drive if needed. So please check the NEXT RUN box on our website for updates. We’ll meet next Sunday as usual at Hon Ru Ri, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start! On On!
