Hares: Faulty Brakes, Mr T Hash Flash: Paddy Ringmaster: Basil Report: Basil Last week we said “safe trip” to Astro Family, and this week we welcomed 27 Hashers including Hash Flash Paddy and two friends waiting for us in Ba Ria city. When we reached the top of Dinh Mountain we saw lots of tourists this time rather than the usual devotees, they all come to swim at the “fairy” stream. Finally reaching our starting point, Hare Mr T went with the bus to live-mark the “challenge trail” while Hare Faulty Brakes start his chalk-talk: “The trail starts by walking down the road a few metres and then turn left at the red tape, then walk down the dirt road to a bridge over a stream, continue until you see the markings made by a bike club with some of our red tape, continue to the jungle and Hashers will come out near the lake coffee shop, then either walk to the bus or take the challenge trail where Hare Mr T is waiting.” So “On-On” we follow, and when we reach the bridge, we found tourists also took a swim at the stream and they happy to pose for our Hash pictures. We then saw the bike club marking with our red tape, so we walk uphill a bit and turn left to the forest. The trail from here on is almost flat land, so we leisurely walk to the thick jungle now fully grown after the rain, but it had been controlled by the locals so we can clearly see the trail as we walk. After a while, we come across a local digging for ingredients to make traditional medicines, some Hashers curious and ask him questions. We then come across more mountain bikers and when we ask are they from the same biker club they’re just regular mountain bikers following their hobby. We finally arrive at the lake coffee shop where Hare Mr T is waiting. He gave us a choice for either continue the uphill challenge trail, or go back to the bus, and we choose the latter! (other groups took the challenge trail). When we reach the bus, with our ice cold San Miguels to help wash down the thirst, the groups that had taken the challenge trail came back to the Down Down and we all handed them the well-deserved refreshments. After a few minutes, we took an early team photo and Circle because everyone has arrived safely, so why not? Ringmaster Basil started the Circle with the welcome message, then brought in the Hares Mr T and Faulty Brakes. Rita nominated herself to rate the trail and gave them 10/10 because for her that was a nostalgic trail! We then bring in the Hash Virgins for introduction. Ms Linh prefer the western name Alice because she lived in the Netherlands when she was a kid; Mr Hoang is Alice’s friend and he heard about the Hash from another friend, Ms Trang, who is Ms T’s auntie and was introduced to the Hash by Mr T! Norwegian tourists/visitors Jan and Liv-Edel were introduced by (Norwegian Hasher) Kojak: at first they don’t know what “Hash” means and don’t want to try it, but after today they changed their minds; and finally Mr Tuan who is a friend of Paddy. A Hash Virgin song is performed by Basil. We bring in our Returnee that had been absent for a long time, Ice Water; her reason for absence is she had a twisted ankle so needed a good time to recover. Sinners: we bring in Faulty Brakes and Jan for inappropriate footwear and Buddha for choosing not to do the challenge trail. Down Downs for them! When we asked for next week’s Hares, Faulty Brakes volunteered to set a local trail. After that, Hashers were happy to go home and singalong on the bus, with the star act being a duet between Kojak and Faulty Brakes! We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start. On On! VTH3 #792 PHOTO GALLERY

Hares: Secs, Paddy, Faulty Brakes Hash Flash: Paddy Ringmaster: SamSon Report: Basil Today the sky is beaming hot with sun as we all gather at Hon Ru Ri before boarding the Hashmobile: 35 Hashers plus 2 waiting at Seaview apartments. On the way to Nui Dinh, a group of mountain cycling teenagers took a break while waving to our Hashmobile and hoping to catch a ride, but our Hash must go on so we continue to Dinh Mountain where Paddy and a friend waiting at the start of the trail. Co-Hare Secs started his chalk-talk by telling everyone that Hashers will follow the path to reach a certain temple, then you will see the red tape that lies on the left of the staircase to the temple. Follow it to the forest and coming out to the other side of the temple with has a “million dollar view”, then continue on to reach another uphill, then walk about 3 km to reach the familiar coffee shop near the lake, before coming out to the sealed road where the bus is waiting for the Down Down. “On-On” we go the path to the temple, then Basil realise that he and some Hashers had been to this trail 2 years ago and haven’t been back here since, so the nostalgia is coming back. We then coming out the forest as foretold and saw the “million dollar view”, with today sunny, we can see clearly for a long distance. Some Hashers took their time to get their perfect photo memories. Then we continue the trail uphill and this time some Hashers had turned the wrong way, but SamSon and Stubble managed to call them back on the track. With the trail always uphill, the Hashers were cheered up by local motor bikers urging them to “Hang on”. We took time to catch our breath before continuing on the long trail; we also saw motor bikers had their motorbike broken down since they can’t handle continued uphill trail! After about 30 minutes, we reach familiar part of the trail and continue onward to finally down the mountain and reach the coffee shop by the lake; now full with water after the rain. Then coming to the sealed road, the final Hasher group had arrived to ice cold San Miguels to congratulate them for the long trail well done. A surprise today is our Junior Hasher Astro Girl birthday and coincidentally, same as Mr T’s birthday, so a song is performed and our Hash Flash took the picture. Then before the sun can’t provide us the light, we took our Team Photo and start the Circle with SamSon as today’s Ringmaster. After the welcoming greetings, we bring in today’s Hares Paddy and Secs and our Birthday Girl is the one who will rate the trail. “It is very long, and hard and the jungle is dark and scary,” she give our Hares 7/10, but our Ringmaster add 2 more points for good weather, makes it 9/10 – well done, Hares! We then bring in the Hash Virgins Shamiel and Igor from the Russia Village; they have heard about the Hash and were invited 3 years ago but didn’t get the chance, but now they happy with knowing lots of friends; Ms Quyen was introduced by Hasher “Boozer”. A Hash song is performed by Basil. Bring in the Returnees: Mr Smiley and Ms “Tomy” absent because LAZY, Perro Caliente was in Singapore because of work and joining Singapore Hash with Suction Cup follow him with same excuses; Ms Thao and Mountain Shrimp with reasons because of work. Down Downs for them! As Sinners, we bring in Basil because he finally wearing new shoes and throw away his tattered 4 years old shoes; Igor and Ms Thao for inappropriate shoe wear; Paddy, because he volunteered and didn’t mean to set a long hard trail to scare anyone; and Aqua because she want to stand in the Circle for the picture! It is time to give a Hashtag for Bryce, with lots of ideas given such as: “Zidane”, “Kangaroo Jack” and “Mr Dundee”. Our chosen Hasher settled with “Zidane” so, “Here’s to Zidane, he’s true blue…”! We then bring in our Special Announcement, Astro Girl and Astro Mom are invited into the Circle as it is their final week in Vung Tau and at the end of this month, the family is moving to Italy to live there. So we sad to say goodbye to the Astro Family, but in the Hash “We will see you again” next time. And we announce for volunteers to set next week’s trail and Faulty Brakes had volunteered to set a trail on Dinh Mountain again, but different trail so check the website NEXT RUN box for more details through the week. After that, we Hashers happy to go home and sing along on the bus with Russian, Vietnamese and Australian songs performed by everyone. We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start. On On! VTH3 #791 PHOTO GALLERY

Co-Hare: Basil Hash Flash: Paddy Ringmaster: Basil Report: Basil Today is cloudy with no chance of the sun showing up as we welcome 30 Hashers who meet at Hon Ru Ri. We took the Hashmobiles to Hem 542 and the drivers are nice enough to took us past the military base and to the temple at the top of the hill. Co-Hare Basil had been told about the trail beforehand, so he started the chalk-talk: "We will follow the red tape up the hill, then turn right to follow the tape down the mountain and then left to reach Haven/Lucy’s Tavern for the Circle and Down Down." “On On” we go to the trail and reach the hill near the house with the barking dog. We go up the hill to reach "Ho May Park" concrete road, and this time we had the cool breeze so now we follow the red tape and reach the beautiful view of Vung Tau city and everyone is ready to take photos on their phones. Then we go past the Artillery Station and down the stairs to reach Tran Phu street, then all the way to Haven/Lucy’s with Hare Faulty Brakes making sure the Hashers have arrived. Everyone managed to come down safely, and after the usual socialising we start the team photo inside the bar since the sea is rough and there are volleyballers on the beach. After the welcome message from Ringmaster Basil, we bring in the Hares Faulty Brakes and Secs plus co-Hare Basil, and Simon again volunteered to rate the trail. He knows if he gives the trail a bad score he will have to set the next one, so he gave the trail 8.9/10. We then welcomed Hash Virgins Ms Nhung who knows about the Hash through Ms Thu, also a first timer; student Thanh Long, who likes the Hash; and Mr Lam who is a Delivery Man. We bring in Returnees Ms Van who hasn’t come to the Hash because she is ‘busy’; our long-time Hasher MissT who came back and gave an excuse that she is lazy; ‘grandma’ Rita was sick; and Kojak working offshore. And today we have 2 Visiting Hashers from Nha Trang but originally from the Philippines Hash, ConStuble and Pantless. We welcomed them with open arms and they haven’t met such a family Hash before - we hope they have a good time in Vung Tau! Last but not least, Hash names were given to Simon: Boozer, and Baz: Buddha, so “Here’s to Boozer and Buddha, they’re true blue…”. And we announced that Secs will be the new On Sec/Hash Geek for our communication (including emails and website) and he and Uncle will work on a structured handover for the next few weeks. Meanwhile, we also looking for volunteers to set next week’s trail so check the website NEXT RUN box for more details through the week. We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start. On On! VTH3 #790 PHOTO GALLERY

Hash Team and Circle photos: Paddy, Aqua Ringmaster: Samson Report: Basil With weather forecast today is slightly rain and cool breeze, we welcome 34 Hashers which included Paddy who we needed to pick up at Ba Ria, where he lives. We all board the new Hashmobile to Dinh Mountain with absent from Terminator Family on holiday in Russia. When we reach the temple at Dinh Mountain, we all hop down and walk up to the stairs and Basil helping out with English chalk-talk to explain the trail, also in Vietnamese. Then “On-on” to those stairs to reach the shortcut on the left side. We all coming to the dirt road and reach the open field, we then walk up the small hill and into the forest; after a minute, we coming out the jungle. We then follow the red tape and arrows that show us the way to follow back to the cement road, and we took the long way down to monks' houses, and go past the small river and into another forest, but we all coming out again in a minute. We reach the picture spot, with the bridge and the Buddha on the lake; we all take turn hop on the flat tone pillar to reach the buddha for a perfect selfie! After that, we all go down back to those stairs and reach the bus for a cold San Miguel beer in the eskies. The rain has come with a little drop, worried; we bring our eskies to the huge tent of the monks just in time the rain is starting to get heavy. After the last Hasher made it back to the eskies and some refreshment, it is time for the group photo; Viking and Faulty Brakes invited young couples who arrive just to avoid the rain for a photo with the Hash. Then SamSon don the chain of office and start the Hash Circle. He invited himself and Paddy for today's Hares and nominated Simon for rating the trail. Simon give the trail 9.99/10 since this is a new trail for him but it is short. We invited the Hash Virgins, Ms Que and her kids, Mr Dat, Minh and My An whom they all study English at ILA, Mr Dat from Vietnamese Fun Club, and 14yo Hoang. A Hash Virgin song is performed by Basil. We then welcomed back Returnees Baz and Ms Trang, only absent for one week, Chippy and Yu Bok coming back after the training course in Saigon, and the Sinner's cup is awarded to Baz with the poorest excuse for absence! With Sinners: Aqua for turning the wrong way to the dirt road, Faulty Brakes for his new shoes, Sec because the Ringmaster said so, and Anthony because he will leave the Hash and return in September. Down Downs for them - with Sec excelling himself with the Sinner's cup and the Tube of Shame! We bring in Anthony again since this is also his 6th run, and he likes the Hash Name “Chom Chom”. It means Rambutan which also his favourite fruit in Vietnam. So here’s to “Chom Chom”, he’s true blue… And final announcement, that VTH3 Re-Hash co-founder and On Sec/Hash Geek for the past six years, Uncle, will be leaving soon and has offered to coach anyone who volunteers to replace him managing the website, emails and day to day VTH3 communications with members, sponsors, media and other stakeholders; Sec volunteered for the job. We then tell Hashers that our '25 years/800 runs' t-shirts are on hold while Uncle is unable to leave Saigon after a family bereavement. We need help to look for sponsor and if you know someone or willing to spend the time to check out suppliers, contact Basil or Uncle for more details (email [email protected] or use the 'Contact VTH3' page on this website). Next week’s run, we have entered summer time and booking the bus company would be hard, so Faulty Brakes and Sec volunteer to set a trail on Big Mountain. Watch the website NEXT RUN box for more details through the week. We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start. On On! VTH3 #789 PHOTO GALLERY
