We welcomed 16 dedicated Hashers for today’s Mystery Trail, and regular Hasher Mother Teresa informed us her husband Terminator is staying at home due to accident. Then, we all walk to Mr Ket coffee shop for our first Mystery Trail, while being observed by locals who are having noon picnics at the park. As the Hares wait for all Hashers to arrive, we all go to the temple stairs for Chalk-Talk. Some Hashers are not a fan of steps but in the end we all go up the mountain to the newly built road from the military. We follow the new road to the lighthouse trail, and Hash Virgin Danious curious about Vung Tau and took this chance to take many photos during this trip. We continue climbing more stairs until we reach the lighthouse coffee shop where we surprised to see many people in the shop; it seems today is a busy day for the lighthouse as we saw many cars and motorbikes going up and down the mountain. Further down the mountain, we don’t go the normal way to reach Mr Ket coffee, but traverse the mountainside to reach the 2nd Mystery Trail, to Jesus statue. We follow the trail down to the road, but then we realise Hasher Mr Henry was nowhere behind, so we decided to give him a call and knowing that he arrive at our Down Down Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant. We walk to Phan Chu Trinh street, then stopped by a Russian tourist in a restaurant who wanted to take some photos of Hashers, so Basil, Rajah, Tina and Danious pose for them. At this point, we walk to Hem 220 at Hotel Duc Anh and up to the open space near the Jesus Statue. A very strong gusty wind kept blowing in the mountain direction, all the while cooling Hashers. As we went up the mountain and looked down to Back Beach, the sea today is looking rough for swimming because of the wind. We got a choice to go up the Jesus Statue but Mother Teresa, Basil and Rajah took short cut to meet everyone under the statue and all go down to the gate and took a “Hash Mobile” to our Down Down. We reach our Down Down but find that we are missing Tina and Danious, but Mother Teresa tell us that they had gone back home. We get many food provided by Hon Ru Ri restaurant, and almond jelly provided by a Vietnamese shop owner and Mother Teresa loves it, and of course our sponsor San Miguel's beer with ice in the eskies! We start the Circle, and SamSon nominated Mr Henry for rating the trail, even though he finished early. The trail was challenging for the long trip, so he wished to give them 9/10 but when he know the Hares will be leaving back to their countries, he added 1 more point to make it 10/10! We have Danious as the Hash Virgin, but he went back with his mom, Tina. We welcomed returnee Shaky who only missed 2 weeks of Hashing, but Henry missed more than 6 Hashes. Sinners Henry for new shoes; and Basil, Mother Teresa and Rajah for taking the short cut: down downs for them! And now special announcement that Hares Faulty Brakes and Flying Finn will leave the Hash for some time to go back to their countries but will return soon; we all appreciate their help this year, and we got some small gifts for them. Faulty Brakes and Flying Finn also wished Terminator to get well soon, so they gave some “gifts” for Mother Teresa to bring home to him. We got no news yet about next week trail, but will put it on the website NEXT RUN box soon, so don’t forget to check it out later this week (STOP PRESS: The proposed "Seaview to the Sea" trail has now been replaced by Minh Dam Secret Zone - apologies for any confusion!). And now we need more volunteers to help set trails within VTH3 "2 pm start territory" (bordered by the northern beaches, Long Son Island, Nui Dinh and Long Hai/Minh Dam). If interested, contact Basil via [email protected] email, the Contact VTH3 page on this website, or at registration any Sunday. In the meantime, we’ll meet next Sunday as usual, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start, at Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant aka Sao Bien 4 (see website home page for details). On On! Then we all board the “Hash Mobile” to Hem 491, where the trail #722 was and today we revisit. We walked the familiar steps to the temple currently being built, and then climbed the mountain to the dirt road. Hare Flying Finn forgot his trail and continued climbing the mountain up the top where the open space area of someone’s garden, while down below co-Hare Faulty Brakes calling his partner that he passed the way they supposed to go! As we climb up to the top, we found that we are in someone else’s garden, but the caretaker was nice enough to help us took a second photo for group picture and showing us the way down. However, Basil remember the surroundings and told the Hares that if they follow the trail, they will found the way lead to the cement track where last year, Hashers had trouble because there was a horse running around their trail. As soon as we coming out of the road, the old trail we follow lead us to the cement road and here Hares told Hashers that they got two options: If they turn left they will come across the infamous 600 steps, but they will be close to the Down Down, so recommended for children and anyone else to take a short cut. On the right, the trail will lead us to the artillery station and the trip to the Down Down will be longer - which recommended for Hashers who want more exercising. But in the end every Hasher decided to took the long trail! When we reach the artillery station, some Hashers are tired so they used the “Hash Mobile” to reach the Down Down - while returnee kid Hasher Hoang walk to the Down Down with his Dad and Basil. At last, we all made it back to the Down Down at 102 Tran Phu, where familiar owner welcomed the Hash with the cold eskies filled with San Miguel beer and soft drinks. After a break, Basil donned the chain of honour and started the Circle with a welcome message. With the Hares standing in the Circle, Pavel is nominated to rate the trail. “A very good trail, very long,” but was set by two “young” men and everyone enjoy it, so 10/10. We welcomed Hash virgin Ms Ly and her friend who introduce her to the Hash Ms Linh. While Mother Teresa not around, other Hashers decided to follow her traditional “welcome performance”! Returnees Chippy, Yu Bok, Ms Linh, Ms Thu and Hoang, all excuses are “Working”, “Travel and Charity” and “Study”; we are happy to see them back. And while the ladies are sinners for using the “Hash Mobiles”, Faulty Brakes is also nominated because he volunteered to carry the eskies and the snacks to the Down Down, but he forgot the snacks. Bigger problem is Basil put the ice bag in the snack bag, but the ice bag is at the Down Down and the snack bag isn’t, so here’s to the Sinner… There were no announcements about the next trail and the Hares, so please check the website NEXT RUN box for updates. We’ll meet again on Sunday at 2 pm for 2.30 pm start at Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant, formerly known as Sao Bien 4 (see website Home page for details). On On! VTH3 #725 PHOTO GALLERY > > >

Additional photos: Radio Wave Ring Master: Basil Report: Basil Today’s weather is hot as we gather at Hon Ru Ri restaurant (previous called Sao Bien 4). Hash Virgin Pavel arrived first with Mr Thanh, a returnee. We also saw Radio Wave’s family and he told us they had a “complete set” of family attending today, so are now “back online” with Vung Tau Hash! Everyone arrived on time, so we loaded the bus and headed off to Dinh Mountain. Even the bus driver was the same one who took us there last week! While newcomer Pavel looked out to see the city, we found out that he only came to Vung Tau three weeks ago, so we help him see where to shop. We go up the mountain and see groups of people exercise as we drive by. We wave at them and then the passengers on another bus wave at us as we walk to the coffee shop for Chalk Talk. We start the chalk talk but unfortunately, the Hares SamSon and Shaky aren’t with us today but they let Faulty Brakes, Flying Finn and Basil handle things because they are the ones who saw the marker tape last week. So when we go in the open road with red tape, we turn right into the jungle with dry river bed, it almost like a scene from “Indiana Jones”! As we coming to the open space area, it is time to climb the mountain. First, we walk under the fallen bamboo trees, then climb up to some rocks, with assistance from veteran Hashers Radio Wave and Faulty Brakes, also need to avoid misstep and jumping. Then it is a walk up to “lone tree hill”, with very careful proceeding because from the nature, rock and tree help us go forward to the cement road that indicate the challenge is over. We are now just strolling back to the bus as Ms Lan and Ms Chuyen took some photos, followed up by Radio Wave taking a group photo, and Hashers Harry and Louis catching xe oms down the mountain! As we walk to the bus where San Miguel waiting and delicious snack from the foodie, Mother Teresa, all while Hashers being observed by a big crow on the tree. The team photo was continuous taking by Radio Wave and his wireless feature. Then Basil put on the chain of honour and the Ring Master’s Hat to start the Circle. After the welcome message, Basil welcomed the Hares Shaky and Samson, but both are not with us today so Basil will Down Down for the missing Hares, and Titanic volunteered to rate the trail. “Challenging”, and “interesting trail”, but he’s visited Dinh Mountain before so ‘only’ 9/10. Welcome Virgin Pavel who join because he saw the ad in Adam & Troy’s bar; Louis works for PVI and was introduced by Returnee Harry; and Ms Vi introduced by Returnee Ms Hoa. We welcome back our Returnees with excuses from Michael for “Lam Viec” (working), Harry and Short Wave for “Study”, Mr Danh “Working”, Ms Hoa “Holiday”, and Sveta “taking care of 2 baby monkeys”! Virgin Pavel was nominated Sinner for inappropriate footwear. Hash Names were given to Ms Lan and Ms Hoa. Ms Lan shall henceforth be known as “Bus Stop” because we always stop at some point to pick her up; and Ms Hoa shall be known as Bambi (from Disney character). Then another announcement for those who weren’t at the Hash last week, that the proposed “far away run” and party at the end of March has been postponed for another time because the venue is fully booked this month. Next week will be local trail on Big Mountain, with hares Faulty Brakes and Flying Finn. We’ll meet again on Sunday at 2 pm for 2.30 pm start at Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant formerly known as Sao Bien 4 – about 30 metres east of the Ho May Park cable car complex on Tran Phu (see website home page for details). Hares: Samson, Shaky Hash Flash: Cousin Ring Master: Basil Report: Basil We met in our new/old place called Hon Ru Ri (previous called Sao Bien 4) for an away trail to Dinh Mountain, because the Minh Dam mountain might be closed for investigating a recent bush fire. We all board the Hash Bus for the trip to Dinh Mountain and on the way, we got Ms Lan and Ms Dung and Ms Lan (who join us more than 6th times) who wished to join us for this trail. As we arrived at our destination, we all followed the only Hare, Shaky, because Hare SamSon was unable to come. As we walk, Hashers took some bamboo walking sticks to help with the trail. As soon as we arrived at the coffee shop, Hare Shaky begin his chalk-talk, the trail go to the intersection and turn left and follow the red tape to the steep hill and coming out the steep hill, will reach the cement road and follow it to the coffee shop and go back to the bus for the Down Down. As Hare Shaky take us to where the cement road is, he forgot the starting point of the tape, so we all followed until we realised there was no tape further on. Everyone suspected we already passed the starting point, but Hashers decided to turn this into a live Hare trail. We continued forward through the forest with veteran Hashers The Gardener, UFO, Ronald Reagan, Flying Finn and Faulty Brakes helping; the plan is to walk an hour and after that, everyone must turn around. Veteran Hasher Ronald Reagan remembered part of his trail setting in this forest, but all the old tape was gone, so we continued into the forest through the path which was more open than going through thick jungle. We ventured down the mountain path but then time is up, Gardener told everyone to go back and he and UFO and Ronald Reagan will look further and then turn back later to make sure they are the last. As we go back to the bus and veteran Hashers catch up to us, Hare Shaky noticed the red marker tape and found the trail that he and SamSon set yesterday, it was true that we had all passed the starting point at the beginning! Everyone make it back to the bus safely, and drinks from our sponsor help everyone recover 100 per cent strength for the group photo and then the Circle hosted by Ring Master Basil. After the welcome message, Basil bring in the Hare Shaky and Basil will drink for the missing Hare SamSon, and everyone agreed that while this trail turned into Live Hare, it still deserved 10/10, and Faulty Brakes rate it in the Circle. We welcomed Hash Virgin Ms Lan, introduced by Ms Dung (last week’s Hash Virgin, a receptionist with Imperial Hotel), Returnee Grandma Rita and Ms Chuyen. Also Sinner Shaky for forgetting the start of the trail! We bring in the Hash Ladies to the Circle, and they all received a deserved flower because all of them are beautiful and it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday and International Women’s Day on Tuesday! Announcement to Hashers who heard last week that there is a planned Away Trip to Coco Beach Camp at the end of March, but it is unfortunately cancelled because the place is fully booked. Also, now the trail has been found, Basil asked if the Circle wished to return here to Dinh Mountain and finish the trail set by Hare SamSon and Shaky, with mostly agree. So unless further notice, next week’s trail will stay the same on the website NEXT RUN box. We’ll meet again on Sunday at 2 pm for 2.30 pm start at Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant formerly known as Sao Bien 4 – about 30 metres east of the Ho May Park cable car complex on Tran Phu (see website home page for details).
