Hares: Faulty Brakes, Flying Finn Hash Flash: Cousin Ring Master: SamSon Report: Basil - We all gather at 12 Hung Vuong street, Café Bi Sắt. Announcement from Mother Teresa that today is Blackhawk’s birthday, so we got 31 Hashers who wished to congratulate him. - We board the taxis to 50 Ha Long street, where our Run 707 ended last time but now, become today’s run beginning. - Hare Faulty Brakes start the Chalk Talk that the trail go up to Lighthouse and Down Down at Café Bi Sắt, just remind Hashers to watch the road when crossing. - We start at a hot weather, a warm exercise by going up the small stairs to the mountain, and up the hill past the hotel, where the staff greet Hashers with English they practise. - A climb through a rocky path; however, we found Hare Faulty Brakes walk up the mountain instead of following the red tape. He said he saw people walk this way so he forgot he was the Hare(!) - We climb up the mountain to the path with lot of thorny branches, Shaky is still remembering his “Mark of honour” so Bugs watch over him. - As soon as we hit the pathway, some Hashers forgot to look for the red tape and almost go the wrong direction but Hare Faulty Brakes save the day. - After the path, the red tape show us to follow the stairs up to the lighthouse, which Basil told new Hashers that this path used to be covered by tall grass after rain, now reveal itself. - We finally reach the coffee shop near Lighthouse and choice offered to take picture up at the lighthouse or follow back to Café Bi Sắt. - A pleasant walk down the mountain, we saw “Peace Keepers” pay attention to law breakers. We greet and they greet us back. - Finally we reach Mr Ket, and saw some Hashers are still wondering whether they meet at Mr Ket or go back to Café Bi Sắt. - A walk through the city and we are back at Café Bi Sắt, last Hashers were Shaky and Bugs but she wonders how Hashers managed to get down so fast, she suspect we used the “Hashmobile”. - After few vodkas to celebrate Blackhawk’s birthday, SamSon called the group photo and the Circle start, while the neighbours next door had some kind of party and occupied the street with tables and chairs. - Ring Master welcome the Hash for another run success and welcome Hares Faulty Brakes and Flying Finn, and Blackhawk as the witness to give out rating because today is his birthday. “Good trail, very exciting but long way down to the Down Down”, so he gives 7/10. - We welcome Hash Virgins Ms Linh and Ms Phuong who introduced by Viking and Ms Hoa. Here’s to the Virgins… - And returnees Rajah, Anatoly whose excuses are “Work”, Stubble excuse is “in Russia”, Mr Smiley “didn’t have any chance to go Hashing on Sundays”, SamSon and Bugs wasn’t here last week. - We got sinner Oggy for becoming “ice water”, SamSon and Bugs who set the trail before but absent when they supposed to lead us. - And of course the birthday host Blackhawk received a Hash T-shirt with words from every Hasher to congratulate him. Here’s to Blackhawk… - Announcement to the Circle, the Red Dress Charity run is going well for next week on Go Gang Island; everyone should wear something Red and of course there will be prize for the best “Red Dress” (but anything red is OK, it doesn’t have to be a dress). We also plan Christmas Party – more details when confirmed. Weather forecast is very normal today which invited 33 Hasher who arrive on time. - However, Hares SamSon and Bugs were busy with schedule and sickness, so the duty fell to Hare Shaky, who said the trail is well marked and beautiful scenery, he even show “mark of honour” on his head! - Hashmobile arrived to pick us up, and we start our journey to Long Hai, but today the Ice Man bring 1 bag instead of 2 so we make a quick stop on the way to purchase another bag. - As soon as we reach the ice seller, the Hashmobile give up and run out of fuel. Luckily, our driver managed to go back and get his Hashmobile Mk. 2 in just 5 minutes and we on our way to Long Hai, Monkey Pagoda. - We arrive at Monkey Pagoda and Ms Lan, who miss the bus but manage to wait for us at Monkey Pagoda, is the 34th Hasher. - With Hare Shaky leading the Hashers, we follow him while everyone was fascinated with so many Monkeys here at the temple, and after everyone take photos, Hare Shaky can start his Chalk Talk with help from Russian translators Long Wave and Radio Wave, sometimes interrupted by monkeys who jump up and down to the roof and watch the group of Hashers with much curiosity. - “On On” we go to the set of stairs up the mountain, a pleasant climb with monkeys on our tail; one couple of teenagers decided to join the Hash by following us to climb the mountain. But they stop as soon as we reach the temple at the top. - We go through the thick Forest, and shout “On-On” on the way, we heard reply from afar but when come near, it's a group of youngsters going back the way we came. They probably enjoy their walk but then forget the way down. If they follow the way we came, they might reach the temple. - The trail leads under a big rock which looks like a small valley. And after Hashers bravely go through it, we reach Minh Dam secret zone and the top of the rock has beautiful views over the mountains. - Coming down the mountain to the familiar old water tank, Hash virgin Ms Thu waiting her friend Ms Hoa who also a Hash Virgin coming with the last group at the temple, and we all come to bus with Ice Cold San Miguel waiting. - After the group photo taken by Hash Flash and Radio Wave, Basil don the GM chain of honour and asked the Hare come to Circle. Hare Shaky represent other Hares SamSon and Bugs who aren’t with us today. Radio Wave raised his hand to rate the trail. - “It is very hard trail and beautiful scenery, the selling point is going under the rock experience.” He decide to give a perfect score, 10/10. Well done Hares, first time Shaky receive such praise! - Today we welcomed Hash Virgins Ms Thu and Ms Hoa who surprisingly told us that they introduced the Hash to each other. Robert from New Zealand joins us because of Shaky. And mother Olga and daughter Sveta introduced by colleague Ivan. - Returnees: Big Mac whose excuse was “on Holiday”, Ferrari, Titanic and D&G for “Family business”, Hot Dog for “Free Beer”, and Ms Chuyen because she is “LAZY”. - We got sinner which Radio Wave found a missing sunglasses, the owner must come to the Circle and turned out to be our latecomer, Ms Lan. So sinner she will be and “Here’s to the Sinner…” - Today we receive word that Ivan and wife Daria should receive their Hash Name for joining more than six times. His wife is a dentist, so she will be “Tooth Fairy”, and Ivan is a doctor: “Doctor House” from the TV show. But since we are in Vietnam, “Bac si House” is most appropriate! - Announcement to the Circle, the Red Dress Charity run will happen on 6th December and everyone should wear something Red and we shall give food to the poor people on Go Gang Island. Additional Hares: SamSon, Ronald Reagan Hash Flash: Cousin. Additional photos: Flying Finn Ring Master: SamSon Report: Basil - Hare Flying Finn arrives early to help with the eskies. But unfortunately his feet are hurt badly so he can only help carry the eskies to the Down Down at 32 Ha Long street. He had some helping hand from experienced Hares SamSon and Ronald Reagan to help lead the group. - Before we walk to Mr Ket coffee shop, Hare Ronald Reagan wanted to have a chalk-talk at our starting place, so we can’t forget it. - Returnee Mr Vu, the dentist, managed to arrive before Hashers leave, and said that he didn’t know we changed the meeting place until he checked the website. - With hot weather forecast, we walk to Mr Ket coffee past the locals having picnic parties in the park. - We go up the mountain by the temple stairs. Once we reach the temple we follow the red tape left by the Hare and up to the old/new road (because the new road now belongs to the military). With help from Ronald Reagan and Cousin, we manage to go up the road. - We can see the old temple now is gone, the road hasn’t finished - so Peter Pan felt is like in the “Lord of the Rings” movie. - Once we hit the cement road, a breeze plus walking help cool down Hashers who prepare to face next challenge. The Gardener, Viking and Dolly didn’t seem to notice the Yellow Ribbon, which they pass through because they had a good talk and forget to see the tape. Luckily they manage to notice and turn around. - We start descend the mountain, while the trail is slippery and we taking our time slowly descend. Basil miss his footing and fell but manage not to fall down the mountain! - After finally coming down the mountain to Ha Long Street, Hashers turn right to #32, but when we reach the Black Pearl Bar, Cousin realises the address is 62 Ha Long - which means we have to turn back and finally reach 32 Ha Long. - After we quench our thirst with cold San Miguel beer, SamSon starts the circle and called out the Hare Flying Finn, and Faulty Brakes has the honour to rate this trail. - Today trail is great, and Faulty Brakes enjoy it. And the fact that Flying Finn does this alone deserves a 9/10. - With no hash virgins, Returnees were called: Tiny Tim, Mr Hai, Mr Vu and Peter Pan, which they all give excuse for “Work”, and “I only miss 2 week” by Peter Pan. - Announcement to the Circle, that we will hold a Charity “Red Dress” Run - and SamSon share the story about Charity recipients on Go Gang Island, which is an island before Long Son and we will do a charity run there. Long Son Women’s Association will help gather the recipients and send us the list, also the island is good for a trail, so we will hold the Charity run as soon as possible in December. The goal is 6th of December. - Also we will give each Hasher a red envelope so they can make a donation if they wish, and we use the donations to buy rice and food for the poor villagers. - After the Circle ended and we went our separate way, SamSon, Basil, Mr Vu, Cousin and Peter Pan saw a shining flying object, but when they didn’t pay attention for a minute, the object disappear. Peter Pan say that must be a UFO. Additional photos: Florin, Ivan Ring Master: Peach Melba Report: Basil - Hashers all gather at Café Bi Sắt,12 Hung Vuong; many were excited because today is Mother Teresa’s and Ms Lan’s Birthdays all at the same time. - Today Hash attendance is 45, include Mr Hoa who arrived at the last minute but managed to park his motorbike and catch up with the group. - We walked from Le Loi street to Phan Chu Trinh through the city centre, where people work and drink coffee, surprised to see a large group of 45 Hashers pass through the streets. - Here we walk as 3 groups, Lead the 1st group way up front is Faulty Brakes. Lead the 2nd group is Mother Teresa, and Shaky volunteered to watch the last group with Bugs Bunny. - As we walk through Phan Chu Trinh to Hem 220, it seems Faulty Brakes led the group through the village from Hem 220, followed by Mother Teresa’s group who were confused because there was no Chalk Talk! - Up the mountain towards Jesus Christ Statue, we all pass through a familiar Village that many Hashers know all too well, and the kids are still happy to practise their English! - As we reach open field, the wind blesses us with strong cool breeze to reward us for enduring a hot weather today. We also find many teenagers up here to take photo of this beautiful spot in Vung Tau city. - The red tape trail lead to the thick forest. Ferrari wanted to bring back to Grandma a tree branch that he considered good luck, and other Hashers found an old Artillery Cannon. We all happy to bring back some Photo memories! - Passing lot of branches and vines, we come out of the forest and didn’t saw the red tape trail. A local was nice enough to tell us where to go, but we still need the Hare to show us and that when Hare Shaky turn up. - Shaky told us to continue down the road and not follow the local’s directions. We finally found the red tape and Hare Shaky told us that he put many red tapes on the trees, but we guess someone decided to take them off! - We take a few minute break under Jesus Statue. A group of Boy Scouts had finish their activity and ready to go home by following the trail set by our Hares. Returnee Ms Hien decided to ask one of the Boy Scouts to give her a lift down the mountain! - We finally down the mountain, while Hash Virgins wanted to have an easy trip to the Down Down by Taxi, Russian Hashers motivated them to not give up and walk to the Down Down instead. - We reached the Down Down at the Russian Beach Club, and were greeted by Mother Teresa, SamSon and Ronald Reagan. By this time, special guest Brittany had already come and gone because she had an international flight to catch for treatment of an injury (she's already been admitted to hospital in Canada, and looking forward to catching up with everyone on her return - ed). - After some refreshment by our sponsor San Miguel, Peach Melba don the GM chain and wanted to start the Circle so we can attend the birthday party after that. - Peach Melba called out the Hares who set the trail, Shaky and Faulty Brakes. Hashers Mowgli and his friend Florin rated the Trail: “It was so confusion because there was no Chalk Talk” and on the mountain some red marker tape was missing. So they gave it a 6.5/10. - Then, we welcome many Hash Virgins: Ms Trung, Ms Lan, Ms Lan Anh know the Hash through the Hash website, Ms Ngan by herself, Nephew Nikita introduced by his Uncle Ivan. - Returnees Ms Oanh, Private Business, Panty, Ms Hien, Ms Thuy and Ms Ngan, The Gardener, Ms Banana with unacceptable excuses of “Work” and “Holiday”. So here’s to the Returnees, they’re “true blue”! - Ring Master decided to skip the Sinners and move to congratulate Mother Teresa and Ms Lan for today is their birthday. Happy Birthday both of you, and SamSon has gift for them: 700th run Hash T-shirts! - We move to the main event: the Party – with tables full of food and lots of Vodka from Ha Noi and United Kingdom combined, we manage to survive until the Chocolate “Napoleon” cake was put on stage, a specialty from the Russian Hashers. - A Russian dancer with Flaming Hot Moves can light up the candles on “Napoleon” Cake, which make us a night we won’t forget!
