Hares: Uncle, Anti, Cousin, Basil Hash Flash: Cousin Ring Master: Basil Report: Uncle We headed off from Hon Ru Ri for a fairly long but not too difficult “waterfall trail” on Big Mountain. Unfortunately, it rained during the week but not on Sunday morning as we’d hoped, so there was no waterfall today – sorry about that, folks! We climbed the residential steps in Hem 89 then went 200 metres up Vi Ba to the start of the climb for a Chalk Talk which offered a choice of easy and not-quite-so-easy trails. Everyone agreed to take the not-quite-so-easy route, so “On up” we went - with co-opted "Hares for the day" Cousin in front, Basil as "sweeper" and Anti "midfield motivator" while Uncle made a secret flanking manoevre to help ensure no-one got lost at the top of the mountain! Left turn at the “crossroads” at the top of the initial 10-15 minutes climb, then around the mountain and under the cable cars and water pipes until we emerged at the top of Vi Ba – left turn and down the broken road to the coffee shop outside the Army camp for Nuoc Mia (sugar cane juice). Then continue down the mountain, past the monkey pagoda and retrace our steps down Hem 89 to Tran Phu and back to Hon Ru Ri for snacks courtesy of Basil’s grandma and Anti, washed down with icy cold San Migs and softies. Darkness was gathering, with a hint of rain, so we called the junior hashers in from their "floating" rock(!), took the team photo, and Ringmaster Basil convened the Circle. Messi scored the trail 10/10, despite there being no waterfall; then we welcomed Hash Virgins Kim Anh, Tam (introduced by Hope Solo), Hung, Sinh (introduced by Tiger), Dianne (self) and Kate (Stubble); then returnee couple Tuong and Thao (after four years!) and Ms Lien, plus two more Hash Virgins Ms Tra and Nhung (phew!). (Another Hash Virgin, Mr Nam, had left before the Circle!) Sinners were Ms Kim Anh and daughter Tam for inappropriate footwear, and Stubble for “mismanaging water”(!). The main announcement of the day was about next week’s “Red Dress” Charity Run at Nui Dat, with everyone urged to join the fun and dress in as much red clothing as possible (even a real red dress if you wish!). It will be a new trail, and we’ll donate some food and small gifts to some of the local poor children at Diggers Rest (see Trip Advisor "Things to do in Vung Tau" for details). We’ll meet at Hon Ru Ri on Sunday as usual, 2 pm for 2.30 pm departure – and any additional gifts for the kids (clothes, etc) are always welcome but not mandatory. It promises to be an interesting, enjoyable and somewhat unusual day in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau countryside, so don’t miss it! On On! VTH3 #735 PHOTO GALLERY

We disembarked at the bridge on Nui Dinh for a chalk-talk by Basil under now clear skies, while live hares SamSon and Cousin headed off to mark what was later acknowledged as an excellent trail. Then it was On On! with a group of enthusiastic junior hashers leading the way. It soon became important to “spot the red tape” and make lots of “On On” shouts, because there’s no way we’d have got through the many twists and turns in sometimes dense undergrowth without such a clearly marked trail and constant communication! We finally made it out to the lake at the top of the mountain for many photos and “pig feeding”(!) before heading along the final kilometre or so to the bus and our bright red eskies! Plenty of time for socialising as everyone gradually returned at their own pace, then it was time for a group photo before the Circle was convened by Ringmaster SamSon. Live Hares SamSon and Cousin were rated 10/10 by junior hashers Patrick and Mark, then no fewer than 7 Hash Virgins were welcomed, followed by returnee Bambi and 8 sinners for “enjoying themselves too much on the trail” and associated misdemeanours real and imagined! Hash Family Mark, John and Ms Trang were given soccer-related Hashtags for reasons unknown - and will henceforth answer to Messi, Ronaldo and Hope Solo respectively! Announcements included a reminder about the Red Dress (charity) Run on 5 June, with distribution of red Li Xi envelopes for voluntary donations; and another request for details about bars, restaurants, hotels, etc that don’t currently sell San Miguel - so our sponsor’s salespeople can follow-up. We finally returned to Vung Tau accompanied by a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Patrick, who had decided to celebrate his 9th birthday with some healthy exercise in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau hinterland! We’ll meet again on Sunday at 2 pm for 2.30 pm start at Hon Ru Ri floating restaurant (formerly known as Sao Bien 4) - hoping for early rain on the day so we can finally see the waterfall again on our Big Mountain "waterfall" trail! Hares: Basil, Cousin, Shaky Hash Flash: Cousin. Additional photos: Radio Wave Ringmaster: SamSon Report: Uncle We met at Hon Ru Ri (formerly Sao Bien 4) in reasonable Hash weather (“only” 33C) for the bus trip to Long Son Island, and dismounted near the outdoor markets for a stroll through the pagoda to the bottom of “the old man of Long Son”, as locals call the mountain which dominates the island. Co-hare Basil gave a chalk talk and then it was “On up” the boulder-strewn ascent to the peak. Plenty of photos at the top, then we hiked across the top of the mountain to descend on the east side to the main road down to Bang Lang restaurant and the familiar red San Miguel eskies to wash down Mother Teresa’s delicious Russian snacks. Ringmaster SamSon called the Circle and introduced Hares Basil, Cousin and Shaky. Invited to rate the trail, Junior Hasher Mak said he enjoyed it and awarded a score of 9/10, much to the delight of the Hares. Hash Virgins Thuy and grand-daughter Dung were welcomed along with John and Thien. Returnees Bus Stop, Tiny Tim, Uncle, Anti and Viking gave various excuses for their absences, with TT being awarded the “tube of shame” – which promptly became stuck on his massive forearm! Sinners included Radio Wave for wearing “crocodile jaw” shoes, grandmother Thuy for casual street shoes with heels(!), Vadik for "overtaking on the inside", and Uncle for making such a frivolous charge! Mother Teresa and Tiny Tim won the “mixed couples straw-drinking championship”; then Basil reminded everyone that our next Red Dress (charity) Run will be on 5 June (run #736) at Nui Dinh, with proceeds going to an orphanage of around 20 children in Ba Ria. Don’t forget to wear as many red clothes as possible on the day, in keeping with Hash "Red Dress Run" tradition (yes, you can wear a dress if you like - but it's not compulsory!). Uncle then asked everyone to provide names, addresses and contact details for any bar, restaurant, hotel etc that doesn’t currently sell San Miguel products, so the information can be given to our sponsor for follow-up by their sales team. And the final announcement was by Superteen, that she and Mother Teresa will be in Hanoi for several months – so they were given a couple of VTH3 t-shirts to pass on to our "cousins" in Hanoi Hash (H4).
