Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 43 Trail: Eco-cart, taxi and personal transport to Beach Valley parking, 1A Ha Long for Chalk talk by Secs. Entered Jesus Statue gates, past ‘Holy Beans’ café and up ~200 steps then over fence onto mountainside. Followed red tapes across many small rocks around mountainside to link with track from Phan Chu Trinh Hem 220 and continue around behind Jesus statue then down steps directly in front of statue, turn right and follow main steps down to exit. Cross Ha Long and down slope to Beach Valley for Down Down. Total distance ~3 km. Highlights: Views along back beach from side of Small Mountain. Cannons, several bunkers, Jesus statue and many religious artefacts for selfies. Down Down: Beach Valley resort. Refreshments: Beer, water, softies; savoury kebab sandwiches, bananas, water melon. Fruit cake slices courtesy Bishop. Circle: Trail rated 10/10 by acclamation. Hares Chippy, Secs thanked. 7 Hash Virgins introduced and welcomed. 10 Returnees welcomed back, several after 3 or 4 years! Sinners forgiven for trail deviation around Jesus statue because so many! Total Hashers: ~73 (53 VTH3, ~20 SH3) Trail: VTH3 took small truck, eco-cart and own transport to start point at Ngọc Linh café, 89 Tran Phu. SH3 went direct by bus from HCMC. For Rent (SH3) convened opening Circle then Rocky (SH3) welcomed 7 Hash Virgins, introduced co-Hares Non-Stop C*ck (SH3) and Chippy (VTH3) for Chalk talk. Walk/run ~200m along Tran Phu to Vo Van Kiet school and Happy Trail (named by Mountain Shrimp several years ago) onto sealed road Hem 444 across Big Mtn. Followed white chalk and red tape to cannons and underground torpedo site then continued on Hem 444 and eventually into jungle for challenging rock-strewn segment to ‘Jesus Cross’ near top of mountain peak above Catholic Church at 140A Tran Phu. Descend 843 steps and across Tran Phu for Down Down. Total distance ~5 km. Highlights: Old French cannons and underground torpedo site. Views of shipyard and Vung Tau Bay. Special interest: Beer stop at roadside café next to Quán gà có ba (“The chicken shop”) in small residential area on Hem 444. Down Down: Ngọc Linh café, 89 Tran Phu (downstairs next to beach and incoming tide). Refreshments: Saigon Chill, softies, water; savoury kebab meat toasties (yum yum!), bananas, water melon, plus sweet cakes courtesy Sementrader (SH3). Circle: Trail rated by Tootsie Robinson (SH3) 6.9 (“A religious experience…”). Hares applauded. Rocky charged VTH3 for walking not running, and not drinking beer at beer stop. Bishop charged Chippy for not removing old marker tape on trail. 4 on ice for being American and late for Hash. Chom Chom (VTH3) thanked SH3 for joining us today! Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Bull Ant, Secs @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 39 Trail: Disembarked Hashmobile in Long Hai. Chalk talk by Secs then walked several hundred metres along road following red eco tapes and Hares to enter forest. Climbed 2,700+ stone steps to lookout rocks. Many photos then continued over jungle trail to Minh Dam peak lookout rocks. More photos then corrugated concrete track downhill past new pagoda to Minh Dam car park. Total distance approx 5 km. Highlights: Panoramic views from both peaks. Down Down: Minh Dam car park. Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies; banh mi, water melon. Circle: Joint effort by Uncle (EN) and Bishop (VN). Trail 7.5/10 (points deducted by Alex for hot weather!). Hares Chippy, Secs, Bull Ant thanked. 6 Hash Virgins (4 VN, 1 Poland, 1 USA) introduced and welcomed. New name Dalinda ‘baptized’! Weather: Scattered high cloud, still air, no rain.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Secs and Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 49 Trail: Magnificent Núi Thị Vải slightly further out than normal hence an earlier start of 11am. Disembark at the entrance to Chùa Linh Sơn Bửu Thiền Temple Complex and next to coffee shop where down-down will be. Chippy conducted the chalk talk in Vietnamese - 85% of today’s Hashers were Vietnamese. Approximately 5km trail starting with a short walk down the road and then turning left into a small hem. This then led us to some dilapidated steps that would lead us into the ancient bamboo forest and a very steep climb to the top of the mountain. Once reaching the summit continue on to the back entrance of the temple and then down 1200 steps back to the beginning. Highlights: Friendly monks at the summit. Spectacular views from 467m above sea level. Ornate Chùa Linh Sơn Bửu Thiền Temple Complex Down Down: Coffee shop next to temple Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies; pork banh mi; water melon, guava. Circle: The first tag team circle with Chom Chom and Bishop sharing Ringmaster duties. Chom Chom introduced the Hares - Chippy and new Hare Chris. Trail was well received with a 10/10 rating. Bishop introduced a multitude of Virgins - too many to list. As Chom Chom sang the welcome song Bishop performed his usual baptism sprinkling the newcomers with refreshing cold water On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy.
