Big Mountain - "Test Your Metal Trail"
Hares: Dr. Who, Boozer
Hash Flashers: Zidan, Flying Finn
Ringmaster: Boozer
Report: Boozer
We welcomed 25 Hashers to the run this week starting at the Haven Restaurant near the Mother of Mary Statue.   Boozer who set the trail with Dr. Who gave a rip roaring instructional clear precise chalk talk where he explained the trail was straight up the mountain with 630 steps as the first challenge, followed by a flat 1.5km walk along the ridge line.  Then a short climb to the summit reaching the white cross with a fast run down 500 steps back to the Haven.  The trail was well marked by the Hares, but Boozer stated that you must stay in line of sight of the Hashers in front of you, so you do not miss the left turn up to the summit.

All the excited hashers set off from the Haven racing up Tran Phu road heading to the temple where the trail started with a climb of 630 steps that tested the metal of everyone, it was a relentless climb to the top of the mountain.  Once we reached the top of those first killer steps we descended the hill a short way to the ridge line where we reached he road.  With relief on everyone’s faces along with any array of hot sweaty crutches, sore rectums and tired legs we turned left and headed along the ridge line road.

The ridge line walk was a scenic easy walk of 1.5km to the turn off to the left to ascend to the summit, the road was well marked by the Hares with red tape in line of sight of each other.  But alas some the avid Hashers did not listen to the Hares instructions where they were advised to stay in line of sight of each other to ensure they all turned left at the well-marked trail with 22 red tapes and red paint markers on two trees that led to the white cross in the church.  The smell of San Miguel beer at the down down site permeated to the top of ridge line, so strong was the aroma some cunning Hashers ran ahead of the pack and got lost and it was a long 3km walk down the mountain to the down down site for those lost soles (hehehehe).
With in trepidation and excitement the horde of not lost Hashers raced up the short well marked climb to the white cross where they enjoyed the magnificent panoramic views of Vung Tau before rolling down the steps past the Mother of Mary statue back to Tran Phu road and on to the down down site at the Haven.
Boozer opened the circle with a rousing welcome to the 821st VTH 3 international hash, welcoming all participants from all countries who have a common passion, Hashers desperate for a drink and drinkers desperate for a Hash.
Dr Who and Boozer who set the trail joined the circle where they were heartily thanked for setting a beautiful trail with magnificent views, a set of cunning, stunning killer steps at the start. With a rousing score of 10 out of 10 was awarded from an unnamed lady Virgin of European origin (rare thing these days).
This week we had 7 new virgins attending the Hash from all over the world, some from Russia, Vietnam, Ukraine, England and Botswana. As some of their names were difficult to pronounce check out the hash photos to be sure of their nationality: o)).
This week we had three Sinners with sins ranging from; I was sleeping at home and I thought I would come to the Hash but left late and arrived late to the hash (weak one!).  Dr Who and Boozer were nominated as sinners by Radio Wave as the lost Hashers moaned and groaned with gusto that there was too much old red tape on the trail and that is why they got lost and it was the Hares fault (Really weak one), Boozer cut to the quick and explained with fervor that Hares are all volunteers’, it is not a profession and if any Hasher who was not satisfied with the trail markings were welcome to volunteer to be a Hare.  They can set a trail of their own, to their exacting standards, and then we could in turn pontificate about their red tape setting abilities with glee (here here).  With a noted silence from the lost Hashers and after all the hoofing, puffing, moaning and farting ceased the sinners circle ended with a vigorous swilling of cold icy San Miguel by the accused sinners (hic hic).
Mother Teresa, Boozer and the Bla Bla Restaurant supplied an eclectic array of fresh sandwiches and rolls which with passion were eagerly woofed, stuffed and pushed down with vigour by the merry band of Hashers.

We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri: 1 pm for 1.30 pm start - in any weather!

Nui Dinh

Hares: Flying Finn, Slipper, SamSon
Hash Flashers: Shomik, Radio Wave, Flying Finn
Ringmaster: Samson
Report: Faulty Brakes

At 1.35pm the hash bus departed  from  Hon Ru Ri on a preset trail on Dinh Mountain prepared by Flying Finn, Samson and Slipper the previous Thursday.

Despite a minor hiccup, people having to disembark from bus to allow it negotiate a steep climb, we arrived at the starting point where Flying Finn prepared us for what lay ahead.

This was a new trail for us, onwards and upwards along the concrete path, then turning into thick jungle and upwards until we reached the temple at the summit with views of Ba Ria and Vung Tau in the south. The return to our now familiar Down-Down base, at the end of the tarmac road, was facilitated by another concrete path on to the main road, and then turning left to an awaiting feast of cheese and ham bread rolls and cold beers carefully nurtured by brewmaster and beer doctor Buddha and apprentice Alan.

A total of 55 hashers (and a dog), hailing from Australia to Siberia, including Finnish, Irish, English and Vietnamese enjoyed our musical extravaganza with Shomit entertaining us with Russian songs and Paul and his brothers from the Irish diaspora complimenting the Hashers with Irish ballads and songs.

The circle continued with the welcoming of the huge influx  of virgins and the trail was rated as 9 out 10. Sinners were punished as per usual. Overall the day was, by our own high standards, a day to remember for all that's good in Vung Tau Hash where we pride ourselves on being a family hash where parents can bring their children along.

In April we will have an overnight trip to coco beach resort in La Gi, details will be posted soon. It's important for everyone to make sure their email address is up to date by subscribing to our new mailing list.

The bus left at 5.00pm laden with cans of the precious nectar we know as San Miguel for yet another rousing chorus of international music and our new DJ Zidane spun some trendy music for our eager Hashers. The bus eventually trundled back to Hon Ru Ri where the eskies and table was unloaded and stored for next weeks run on Big Mountain and when Lou Rawles sang "perfect day" maybe VTH3# 820 was on his mind.

We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri:  1 pm for 1.30 pm start - in any weather!

LONG HAI

Hares: Flying Finn, Slipper
Hash Flashers: Shomit, Radio Wave, Flying Finn
Ringmasters: Boozer
Report: Boozer

We welcomed 37 Hashers to the run this week starting at the base of Minh Dam mountain near Long Hai.  Flying Finn, who set the trail, gave a motivating chalk talk where he explained the trail was straight up the mountain with millions of red tape markers to follow with no chance to turn the wrong way or get lost.
The trail was a straight walk up the road, join a track heading to the base of the mountain, then steps to the first ridge line and then a path like the yellow brick road that led to Minh Dam Base where the down down was to be held.
All the excited hashers set off up the main road seeking the path that lead to the steps, it was a hot sunny day and very quickly we all got hot and sweaty.
After a brief stroll through the flatlands and dense bush we reached the step at the base of the mountain and the summit could be seen towering above us.
With trepidation and excitement we commenced the ascent up the steps. After a speedy start we reached the halfway mark of the ascent where we stopped for a breather and to wave goodbye to some hashers who turned back beaten by the steps ever increasing gradient.
It was getting hot, everyone was sweaty, smelly and rancid but the motivated hashers set off again up the steps heading to the first ridge line but at a much steadier pace.
With relief after a 30-minute climb we reached the ridge line where we were faced with choice turn left or turn with no tape insight it was a gamble.  With a moan and a grunt (new hash names) some hashers turned left, and some turned right.
The lucky hashers who turned right made it to Minh Dam Base where ice cold San Miguel was waiting and those who turned left ended up in Don Hai town 3km away from the down down site.
Boozer opened the circle with a rousing welcome to Run 819, welcoming all participants from all countries who have a common passion, Hashers desperate for a drink and drinkers desperate for a hash.
Hares, Flying Finn and Slipper, joined the circle where they were heartily thanked for setting a beautiful trail by the refreshed merry hashers.  A rousing score of 10 out of 10 as awarded from an unnamed Virgin (rare thing these days).
This week we had 8 virgins attending from Russia and Vietnam.
As the rule is a Hasher must be absent six consecutive weeks or more we had no Returnees.
This week we had three Sinners with sins ranging from; I stubbed my toe on the bed head, so I could not walk for three weeks (Radio Wave); I’m so beautiful it’s a sin to be on the hash (Faulty Brakes); and the third Sinner a Copy Cat who could not think of an original sin, copied Faulty Brakes and said he was beautiful. After a quick vote amongst the beautiful array of ladies at the down down an average score of 3 out of 10 was awarded to Faulty Brakes and Copy Cat for their stunning lack of beauty.
Dashed Faulty Brakes and Copy Cat drowned their sorrows with more icy cold San Miguel beer from our sponsor.
Mother Teresa & Boozer, who both provided an eclectic array of fresh sandwiches with an international style and flavour which were eagerly woofed down with vigour by the merry band of Hashers.

We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri:  1 pm for 1.30 pm start - in any weather!

Last Run of 2017!

Hares: Flying Finn
Hash Flashers: Flying Finn,
Ringmasters: Faulty Brakes
Report: Faulty Brakes

Last Sunday's run being the last run of the year coincided with the last day of the year.
Flying Finn, our Finnish trail finder, decided like the previous week, for a less strenuous trail.

The trail consisted of a 10km walk from Ru Ri to Mountain Valley at the foot of the the Jesus Statue and return to  base at Hon Ru Ri.Twenty Hashers enjoyed the trail past the Front beach, Ferry Station along Halong with hazy sunshine and a cooling breeze coming in off the South China Sea. Then onwards past the Black Pearl, to Happy Valley only to hastily retreat back to Hong Ru Ri where we are greeted with cold cans of San Miguel carefully prepared by Buddha( VTH's Beer Doctor.

This week there were no sinners only saints. Faulty Brakes wished everyone a Happy New Year on behalf of their mismanagement and highlighted the successes of the 800th run and the 800th party at Sky Garden, and the Christmas party at Vung Tau Marina.

Next year we hope to arrange an overnight hash before the end of April and preference will be given to regular hashers.

We look forward to another year of hashing and thank all those who contributed to 2017, foodies, hares,  scribes etc. On-On 2018 and next week’s trip will be to Long Hai.

We’ll meet again on Sunday, as always, at Hon Ru Ri:  1 pm for 1.30 pm start - in any weather!
