24 SEPTEMBER 2023

NUI DINH MOUNTAIN - DI DA SONG PAGODA TRAIL
Hares: Bull Ant, Secs, Chippy
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom
Ring Master: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Cool, overcast, storm later.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Mr T & Johnny @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 21
Chalk talk: Secs (edited): “Circular trail down Nui Dinh road 1 km from swimming pool café, then right into jungle and follow red tapes up and around to interesting temple and lookout rocks then cobbled track out of jungle and down Nui Dinh road to start point for Down Down. Total about 5 km.”
Trail: Hash Lighters walked up the 8% gradient Nui Dinh road to today’s start/finish point the Bồng Lai Quán swimming pool café. Main group walked downhill from the café then turned right into the jungle and followed a mostly level path through the undergrowth until we crossed a small stream and subsequently changed to a steep upward trajectory littered with big, slippery rocks!
But even the most difficult trails must end sometime (Hash rule #1), and after several short breaks to rest weary legs we finally reached the ancient rock steps to the awesome Chùa Đi Đà Sơn (Di Da Son Pagoda), with its many religious gold-coloured artefacts, caves and lookout rocks with stunning vistas!
Much excitement and many photos later, the trail continued along a partly-paved, undulating track to the Nui Dinh road and downhill to the swimming pool café, dodging traffic and greeting locals on their daily exercise and/or selling freshly harvested bamboo. Socialising, swimming and/or bargaining for 1kg bags of bamboo followed, courtesy of the very friendly new swimming pool café owners!
Highlights: Many ‘golden’ religious artefacts at the Chùa Đi Đà Sơn pagoda and lookout points, aka ‘Magic Mountain’. See also: Chùa Di Đà Sơn Núi Dinh 2018 - YouTube
Down Down: Bồng Lai Quán (Bong Lai café, hammock and swimming pool rest area).
Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies, meat and mixed rice salad, water melon.
Circle: Trail rated 9/10 (1 point deducted for mosquitos in the pagoda shrines). Hares Bull Ant (travelling), Chippy, Secs thanked. Hash Virgins Helen (Ca. USA), Mai (VT) introduced and welcomed. Returnee Catwoman welcomed back (family care). ‘Baptisms’ by Bishop!
On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy until late heavy rain stopped.
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for more details of next week’s run.
PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary).

17 SEPTEMBER 2023

NUI DINH MOUNTAIN - HELIPAD TRAIL
Hares: Bull Ant, Secs, Chippy
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Secs, Chom Chom
Ring Master: Uncle
Report: Uncle
Weather: Cloudy, cool – good Hashing weather.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Bull Ant & Johnny @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 28
Chalk talk: Secs (edited): “Follow red tape through jungle trail to lookout rocks at top of mountain with ‘million-dollar views’. Descend on different trail to start point (A-A distance about 5km).”
Trail: Hash Lighters walked from bottom of mountain. Main group dismounted opposite partly concreted monastery access track between the bridge and the lake turn-off. Walked several hundred metres towards monastery for chalk talk, then turned into jungle and followed somewhat rocky, dirt trail to top of mountain via several small stream crossings. Many photos/selfies on different lookout rocks then down different occasionally rocky dirt trail, very steep in parts, via several mountainside huts and a pagoda/monastery with six public toilet cubicles.
Highlights: “2 million dollar views” and many photo opportunities at mountain top (including posing at a lunch table carried up the mountain by a couple of non-Hash hikers). Several Hashers helped a ‘green’ Returnee plant an almond tree and spread mulch for good karma.
Down Down: Open area at side of the road between the bridge and the lake turn-off, opposite large roadside rest stop and concreted monastery access track.
Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies, assorted banh mi, bananas, water melon.
Circle: Hares thanked. Three Hash Virgins introduced and welcomed. Two returnees welcomed back.
On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy.
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for more details of next week’s run.
PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals).
Other business/Công việc kinh doanh khác:
1(EN). Always wait for traffic control from Hares before leaving the Hashmobile – especially on busy highways (eg Seaview/Chi Linh).
1(VN). Luôn chờ kiểm soát giao thông từ Hares trước khi rời Hashmobile – đặc biệt là trên các đường cao tốc đông đúc (Seaview/Chi Linh).
2(EN). Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 is the only pick-up/drop-off point in Vung Tau city area. Pick up/drop off outside Vung Tau city must be arranged with Hares or Mismanagement.
2(VN). Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1 là điểm đón/trả khách duy nhất tại TP Vũng Tàu. Việc đón/trả khách bên ngoài thành phố Vũng Tàu phải được sắp xếp với Hares hoặc Ban quản lý.

10 SEPTEMBER 2023

MINH DAM MOUNTAIN - HERMIT'S HOUSE TRAIL
Hares: Bull Ant, Secs, Chippy
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Secs, Chom Chom
Ring Master: Chom Chom
Report: Uncle
Weather: Overcast, no rain – cool for Hashing!
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Bull Ant & Johnny @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 24 (31 registered)
Chalk talk: Secs.
Trail: Rated 10.5/10. Hash Lighters walked from entrance gate to Minh Dam car park. Main group dismounted on sealed road past (and outside) entrance gate then continued for ~1 km before turning left onto jungle trail and up many hundreds (thousands?) of stone steps to Hermit’s now seemingly unoccupied shack approx three-quarters of way to lookout rocks and flagpoles, then over mostly small boulders to the top. Steep, challenging ascent luckily helped by ropes in places; but easier, interesting descent with another set of lookout rocks, fewer steps and “work in progress” museum.
Highlights: Selfie material and awesome views from lookout rocks and flagpoles. New, small museum down steps and across bridge from car park–take a torch to read dual language info labels.
Special interest: Inscription above Ho Chi Minh bust in museum: Không có gì quý hơn độc lập tự do (“Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.”)
Down Down: Minh Dam car park.
Refreshments: Saigon Chill; water; softies; spring rolls and beef w/mixed noodle salad; water melon; bananas.
Circle: Hares thanked. Family of 4 Hash virgins introduced and welcomed. Three returnees welcomed back. Sinner Bull Ant ‘punished’ for new shoes.
On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy.
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for more details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: If you register but then can’t attend for any reason, please cancel registration (as soon as possible, but always better late than never!) so smaller/cheaper bus can be substituted if necessary, and food order changed.

3 SEPTEMBER 2023

BIG MOUNTAIN - NEW EXIT
Hares: Bull Ant, Mr. T, Secs, Chippy
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Secs
Ring Master: Uncle
Report: Uncle
Weather: Downpour during registration, then overcast but no more rain.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees, Mr T & Johnny @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: ~50 including Le Quy Don teachers, students, parents.
Trail: Chalk talk by Secs (edited): “Follow red ribbons for 6.5km over Big Mtn, around Ho May Park and back to start”. Tran Phu to Princess Spa turn-off then uphill through posh houses and Bodharama temple and left onto Vi Ba past coffee shops. Exit via narrow concrete ramp at left of hairpin after army camp. Through jungle around southern side of Ho May Park to Hem 444 (aka ‘Ho May Park Boulevard’) then follow ribbons along/down new steep, rocky descent trail to rear of Thompsons’ house then across to Hem 36 near Chơn Không monastery, down onto Vi Ba and back to start point for Down Down.
Special interest: New exit route down to rear of Thompsons’ house completes a circumvention of Ho May Park, but extreme care required with muddy, steep descent and slippery rocks, especially in wet weather!
Down Down: Nắng Vũng Tàu (incl. Mr C’s takeaway pizza mostly delivered by maitre d’/official taster Bishop).
Refreshments: Saigon Chill, water, softies, water melon, pizza (yum yum!).
Circle: Trail rating 10/10. Returnees Soggy Bottom, Tony. 16 Hash Virgins from Saigon, Ba Ria, Vung Tau City. Sinner Bishop (SCB). Hash namings: Panda, Chipmunk.
On on on: Mr C’s.
Next week: Watch this space and facebook page: @VungTauHHH for more details of next week’s run.
