HOÀ BÌNH WATERFALLS
Hares: Chippy, Secs, Bull Ant, Hotlips
Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom Ring Master: Chom Chom, Bishop Report: Hotlips (with a hat tip to Uncle)
Weather: Sunny and hot, but shade along the riverside and at the end point Thac Hoa Binh (Eco Park).
Hash Cash: Early start – 11 am. Bull Ant and Secs @ VTH3 Kennel: Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 47 Destination: Dam approx 5 km from Thac Hoa Binh (Eco Park), nearly 2 hours drive from Nang VT; north of Ho Tram, Xuyen Moc. Chalk Talk: Secs (edited): “Over the fence, across the Hai Binh dam, down the steps, then follow red ribbons for 5km through the woods, cross the river (several times) to Eco Park waterfalls.” Trail: Raging Bull at Hòa Bình! A full coach of sleepy heads departed Lê Ngọc Hân at an earlier time of 11am. After a longish drive the Hashers arrived at what appeared to be the end of the road. The hot sun was beating down on the assembled and well covered ninja's. Drill Instructor Secs gave some stern words about the trail ahead. First obstacle was a locked gate which appeared to be secured to prevent entry. Hashers confidently climbed over the gate fulfilling the first act of trespass of the day. All then marched straight ahead along the dam to a sharp right turn and steep descent down steps to a turbine shed and then along the culverted river wall and past a suspicious collection of dead fish. Hashers climbed down the spillway wall where the Hares noticed the massive outflow was a lot bigger than earlier in the week which sparked fear of a torrential river ahead. The innocent strollers continued along the wall beside the palm grove and over a recently erected barbed wire barrier atop a wall to prevent entry. The forward party of walkers went past a docile and cute cow that was gently grazing the long acre. A sudden shriek from a small child spooked the bovine specimen to make it panic and then bolt for the pint sized human. Suddenly a hero burst onto the scene and corralled the heifer to save the child from certain death by stomping hooves. This herculean figure was identified as 'Roy' and on his inaugural visit to the Hash. With a swift matador style movement the cow had been brought to its knees and Roy bit the dust. The cow then knew it had met its match, tapped out, broke its tether and dashed away into the bush. Hashers were instantly checking Roy for injuries and questioning if we had cow attack insurance cover. Although Hashers were concerned for the injuries Roy had sustained (and insurance liability), he bravely remarked the gashes to his body were 'merely a scratch'. Hash management and their insurance underwriters were relieved. Field-Medic 'Bishop' applied iodine and reassuring words to the injured first-timer. The trail continued along a road akin to a highway of death and then through varied terrain until the group reached a river crossing. Fears of drowning were overcome and long jumps were perfected on the river crossing with only a few wet feet occurring. Further on the Hashers strode triumphantly past a scouting group and into the camp-ground with the swagger of accomplished outdoors-people. A hearty meal was enjoyed and washed down with the sweet nectar of Saigon Chill. Highlights: 1. First two river crossings – the water had been much lower when the Hares set the trail two days previously 2. The willingness of so many to help others in difficulty (especially river crossings). Well done, everyone: helping others is what Hashing is all about! 4. Chicken & mushroom congee with the chicken salad down down meal; and that’s “chicken with everything”: head, tail, etc etc - all the chewy bits! 5. Swimming in the waterfalls: Junior Hashers and some ‘not so junior’ loved it! Down Down: Thac Hai Binh (Eco Park) waterfalls. Refreshments: Saigon Chill, softies, water, chicken salad, chicken & mushroom congee/rice soup, assorted fruit – yum yum! Trail rating: 10+ Hash Virgins: 4 including “matador” Roy Returnees: 2 mother and son team Martyrs: Matador Roy and Sex time o'clock were invited into the circle to describe the “mad cow” experience Circle closed: Garbage bags filled, eskies de-iced. Pleasant return journey: no traffic jams, two comfort stops. Assets offloaded and stored at Nắng Vũng Tàu. Down Down Down: Mr C’s Speakeasy, 3A Lê Ngọc Hân (next door to Nắng Vũng Tàu) – wood-fired pizza and Saigon Chill buckets at own/shared cost.
