Hares: Uncle, Anti, Cousin, Basil Hash Flash: Cousin Ring Master: Basil Report: Uncle We headed off from Hon Ru Ri for a fairly long but not too difficult “waterfall trail” on Big Mountain. Unfortunately, it rained during the week but not on Sunday morning as we’d hoped, so there was no waterfall today – sorry about that, folks! We climbed the residential steps in Hem 89 then went 200 metres up Vi Ba to the start of the climb for a Chalk Talk which offered a choice of easy and not-quite-so-easy trails. Everyone agreed to take the not-quite-so-easy route, so “On up” we went - with co-opted "Hares for the day" Cousin in front, Basil as "sweeper" and Anti "midfield motivator" while Uncle made a secret flanking manoevre to help ensure no-one got lost at the top of the mountain! Left turn at the “crossroads” at the top of the initial 10-15 minutes climb, then around the mountain and under the cable cars and water pipes until we emerged at the top of Vi Ba – left turn and down the broken road to the coffee shop outside the Army camp for Nuoc Mia (sugar cane juice). Then continue down the mountain, past the monkey pagoda and retrace our steps down Hem 89 to Tran Phu and back to Hon Ru Ri for snacks courtesy of Basil’s grandma and Anti, washed down with icy cold San Migs and softies. Darkness was gathering, with a hint of rain, so we called the junior hashers in from their "floating" rock(!), took the team photo, and Ringmaster Basil convened the Circle. Messi scored the trail 10/10, despite there being no waterfall; then we welcomed Hash Virgins Kim Anh, Tam (introduced by Hope Solo), Hung, Sinh (introduced by Tiger), Dianne (self) and Kate (Stubble); then returnee couple Tuong and Thao (after four years!) and Ms Lien, plus two more Hash Virgins Ms Tra and Nhung (phew!). (Another Hash Virgin, Mr Nam, had left before the Circle!) Sinners were Ms Kim Anh and daughter Tam for inappropriate footwear, and Stubble for “mismanaging water”(!). The main announcement of the day was about next week’s “Red Dress” Charity Run at Nui Dat, with everyone urged to join the fun and dress in as much red clothing as possible (even a real red dress if you wish!). It will be a new trail, and we’ll donate some food and small gifts to some of the local poor children at Diggers Rest (see Trip Advisor "Things to do in Vung Tau" for details). We’ll meet at Hon Ru Ri on Sunday as usual, 2 pm for 2.30 pm departure – and any additional gifts for the kids (clothes, etc) are always welcome but not mandatory. It promises to be an interesting, enjoyable and somewhat unusual day in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau countryside, so don’t miss it! On On! VTH3 #735 PHOTO GALLERY
