Weather: Partly sunny, 32C
Hash Cash: 1 pm registration with Mr T @ VTH3 Kennel: Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1.
Total Hashers: 30+
Trail: Own/shared transport to Tran Phu Hem 444. Up past Quan yin monastery (aka Kannon pagoda), former French gun battery, first food area, then restaurant on tight bend just before large sign: Quán 2 Nghĩa Chuyên các món về gà (“Specializes in chicken dishes”). Park transport and follow per chalk talk. Good shade.
Chalk Talk: Secs (edited): “Back down Hem 444 to gun battery, down stairs behind guns to temple. Through temple then up via jungle to rear of start point (‘Special chicken restaurant’). 3 km circular route, follow red tape.”
Highlights: Gun battery; Quan yin monastery; old military bunker behind special chicken restaurant; friendly staff: many happy faces and lots of tasty food!
Special interest: ‘Quan âm tịnh viện’ is Vietnamese for ‘Quan yin monastery’. Quan yin (Chinese: Guanyin) is a Bodhisattva: “One who is able to reach nirvana but delays doing so through compassion for suffering beings”; hence usually called ‘Goddess of Mercy’. 
Down Down: Special chicken restaurant (see “Trail” above).
Refreshments: Bia Saigon, softies, water, grilled chicken, sticky rice, congee, mango.
Trail rating: Crazy numbers, but very high!
Hash Virgins: Locals Thanh and Phat. Welcome to Vung Tau Hash boys, we hope to see you again!
Returnees: Mr Phú, Pink (Ms Cảnh) and Jnr Hashers Sam and Vũ; Jnr Hasher Golden and mum Jennifer; Ms Tỷ (Liz); and Johnny – all busy working and/or studying or relocating – welcome back one and all! 
Visitors: Thai Me Down and Goblin King (SH3 et al). GK promoted a new SH3 men’s group, meets 7.30pm every 2nd Friday (next run 12 May – message/facebook). A special event is planned for 2 June. Nice to meet you both – here’s to the next time!
Farewell: Sandals to Finland: “…after 8 months on the road”. Safe trip, Sandals - hẹn gặp lại!
Other business: Secs wished everyone a Happy Reunification Day and announced a joint SH3/VTH3 away run, 14 May on Núi Thị Vải – more details to follow. Slightly earlier start time will be 11.30 am – watch for emails and please register early to help organize transport and catering.
