Hash Flashers: Chippy, Chom Chom Ringmaster: Chom Chom Report: Uncle
Weather: Broken high cloud, hot.
Hash Cash: 1 pm run fees Secs, Bull Ant @ Nắng Vũng Tàu, 5 Lê Ngọc Hân, Ward 1. Total Hashers: 28 Trail: Hashmobile turned right on Long Son island and followed highway around to disembark adjacent to Long Son Petrochemical refinery (‘LSP’). Chalk Talk by Secs then “On On” uphill following red marker tapes through a fairly dense bamboo forest with slippery dry leaves underfoot. The trail was bone-dry with crumbling rocks in parts requiring some ‘ungainly vertical scrambling’, especially by those with shorter and/or older legs! But it became easier across the hilltop with rock steps and a fairly open dirt track down to a low density residential area with mix of barbed, razor and chicken-wire fences (and a grumpy security guard!). The all-important marker tapes eventually led to a sealed road around the Mang Ca lake (Hồ Mang Cá) to our Down Down venue, the lakeside (Bờ Hồ) TM Coffee and Homestay. Total distance ~3.5 km. Highlights: Views of the Long Son Petrochemical refinery. A goat herd passing Mang Ca lake. Culinary specials including Bánh tráng đậu (sticky sugar, peanuts in rice paper), Bishop’s chocolate brownie chunks and Ms Tu’s mum’s dried shrimps. Special interest: ‘Long Son Petrochemical project begins commercial operation 1 March to produce plastic products for the Vietnamese market such as bottles, jars, tubes, fuel tanks, wrap films, bottle caps, auto parts, washing machines, industrial nets, etc.’ From March 2024: USD 5 billion project officially put into commercial operation - Ba Ria - Vung Tau electronic newspaper (baobariavungtau.com.vn) Down Down: TM Coffee and Homestay. Refreshments: Banh mi w/pork and veg, water melon. Bánh tráng đậu (sticky sugar, peanuts, rice paper). Dried shrimps courtesy Ms Tu’s mum. Chocolate brownie chunks courtesy Bishop. Saigon Chill, softies, mineral water. Circle: 8-11-7.5/10. Hares Chippy, Secs, Bull Ant thanked. Returnees Ms Anh (“working hard”), Arseholio (“Hamersley, laying bricks”), Chook (“Australia, working and drinking”), Ms Liz (“holidays, parties”) welcomed back. Other business: Bishop spruiked his chocolate brownies for sale (100k vnd for 2 incl. free cookies), also fruit cakes. Contact via Zalo group. Frank and Yolanda: “Fair winds and following seas”. Have a safe trip and we’ll see you again in November. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy pub, 3A Lê Ngọc Hân. Next week: Watch this space, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s run. PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary). “On On”
