Take seats for bánh hỏi and drinks Down Down”. Highlights: A fashion show in the rice fields with Chippy’s harriettes wearing áo bà ba (short shirts popular in southwestern VN countryside, worn with long silk trousers) and nón lá (conical hats). Feasting on local delicacy bánh hỏi after walking through the fields taking photos, swapping greetings with friendly farmers and trying to count thousands of happy ducks eating lunch! Special interest 1: Bánh hỏi is rice vermicelli woven into intricate bundles and often topped with chopped scallions or garlic chives sauteed in oil, served with a complementary meat dish. Special interest 2: An Nhất (aka An Nhứt) is a commune and village in Long Điền, a rural district of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province with a population of nearly 140,000 (most of whom seemed to be at the extremely popular food market stalls in the rice fields on Sunday!). Special interest 3: Culinary market amid rice fields popular among foodies in Vietnam’s Ba Ria-Vung Tau | Tuoi Tre News Down Down: Bánh Hỏi An Nhứt (famous and incredibly popular restaurant established more than 30 years ago, hence original commune spelling An Nhứt i/o today’s An Nhất). Refreshments: Bánh hỏi. Saigon Chill, softies, mineral water. Circle: Trail rating 8.5, 9/10, “very good”. Live Hares Chippy and Secs thanked. Hash Virgins Tien, Hien, Nga (Vung Tau) welcomed and ‘baptismally sprinkled’ by Bishop. Returnee Tan (“HCMC busy working”) welcomed back. Circle videographer Alex thanked. Chom Chom (EN) and Chippy (VN) reminded the Circle that next week will be an “all dayer” to popular mountain Núi Chứa Chan in Đồng Nai province, with early start 8 am for 8.30 am departure. Details on Zalo, facebook, website and email distribution list “…so please book early to avoid disappointment”. On on on: Mr C’s Speakeasy pub, 3A Lê Ngọc Hân. Next week: Watch this space, Zalo, facebook page @VungTauHHH and direct emails for details of next week’s “all dayer” to Núi Chứa Chan. Please book early to avoid disappointment! PLEASE REMEMBER: We can all help to keep run fees as low as possible by cancelling registration if suddenly unable to attend (the committee can then order a smaller/cheaper bus and fewer meals if necessary). “On On”
