BIG MOUNTAIN - short way up, long way down!

After posing with our new “San Miguel (Light) sponsors the Hash” banner, some 30 happy Hashers set off in sunshine for the Ganh Hao restaurant – not to eat, but to climb up the side of Big Mountain from the “entrance” next to their car park.
It was a fairly rugged climb to the coffee shop but all made it in good shape, including little Oopso who sidestepped some of the piglets, “just in case”!

Plenty of nuoc mia later, we headed down Vi Ba to the descent into the White House (shhhh…), where some chose to continue down to the Hem 89 steps for the longer route, and others opted for the White House (which also turned out to be a longer route for some!).

We finally all made it back to SB4 and enjoyed ice-cold San Migs and snacks courtesy Fot tret in an unusually “civilised” Circle by using chairs from the Sao Bien garden setting – very nice, indeed!

Ringmaster Basil called on returnees Tiny Tim, Stubble and Big Mac to rate the trail, with a consensus from 2 x “good” and 1 x “v.good” giving a creditable score of 8/10 for hares Uncle and Faulty Brakes!

Five virgins were welcomed, along with their sponsors: Mr Hung sponsored by his sister, Ms Lien; Paul (Uncle); Denis (Tiny Tim); Barry (Greg); and Mr An (Paul); and then it was the returnees: Tiny Tim, Stubble and Big Mac, with excuses ranging from “holiday” and “work” to “my wife got a new visa”!

Not many sinners this week, but the UXO/OXO/Oopso family and friends managed a guernsey for taking not one but two extended sightseeing tours during the descent!
Uncle then explained that the 700th run t-shirts will become valuable collector’s items – not just because of their exceptional quality and design(!), but because he made a mistake with the date of the 700th run, which should be 27 September 2015 and not 04 October 2015 as printed on the shirts!  That earned him a bonus Down Down!

(ed’s note:  With all the frivolity in the Circle, we completely forgot to farewell Ak Bars’ lovely niece Julia and, equally as bad, to thank Fot tret for voluntarily bringing snacks along for everyone to enjoy – sorry, folks: too much fun leads to short-term memory loss!)

Talking of fun, everyone was urged to “pray for rain” next Sunday morning – because the trail is mostly a narrow track around the side of the mountain, with superb views along the way, and a beautiful “nature’s own” waterfall when it rains!

We’ll meet on Sunday as usual at Sao Bien 4 restaurant, 2 pm for 2.30 pm start.

On On!
