Sunset photos: Tiny Tim Ring Master: SamSon Report: Uncle Plenty of sunshine today as 41 Hashers registered at Café Bi Sắt for the trail on Small Mountain. Some of us wondered why we needed to catch taxi's to the start point at Hem 84 on Phan Chu Trinh, but it soon became apparent that the Hares knew more about the degree of difficulty than we did! Flying Finn explained the trail and off we went up Hem 84 until we encountered a wall that sorted those with long legs from the rest of us(!). For the next hour or so we followed the red markers up and around Small Mountain, with the down bits arguably more demanding than the climbs because the undergrowth was so dry and slippery. We followed a range of familiar "trail parts" up Lighthouse Hill, then around to the southern face of Small Mountain, across to Jesus Hill, and down to exit via the pagoda steps at 40 Halong for the last half mile or so past Lan Rung resort to 1A Halong and the Valley Beach resort, where the food and eskies full of ice-cold San Migs and softies awaited. Some headed into the ocean for a dip, while others decided to get wet on the inside! Then we lined up for the team photo, followed by the Circle - at which time the karaoke machine was muted for a while! Duty Ring Master SamSon invited Shaky to rate the trail, and he gave it 9 + 1 to make a deserved perfect score: 10/10! Then no fewer than 8 Hash Virgins were introduced from Denmark, France and Russia, followed by a welcome back for returnees from Russia (after 10 years!), Vietnam, USA and Australia, and a sinner from Denmark. Then Trinh and James, widow and son of former VTH3 stalwart John "Falcon" Mills came into the Circle to thank everyone for the generous donations that helped them settle into their new life "down under" after the sudden, tragic death of their husband and father in 2014. They were presented with embroidered Hash caps to mark their honorary VTH3 life membership status. Then the Circle was closed so everyone could eat ("feast" would be a more accurate description) and socialise until darkness fell. Next week's trail will be a local one set by Faulty Brakes and Flying Finn because trying to hire a bus on Tet eve would be attempting the impossible! We'll meet again on Sunday at Pétanque Café Bi Sắt, 12 Hung Vuong Street: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start - in any weather! On On! VTH3 #718 PHOTO GALLERY > > > SUNSET OVER VUNG TAU BAY by Tiny Tim
