We see some familiar faces at Hon Ru Ri, then it is time to board the bus to Seaview apartments on Vung Tau’s “northern beaches”. On the bus, Basil gave out maps that Uncle prepared and then we got off for Chalk-Talk about the trail, even though the map is given to many Hashers, because Basil had also marked some turning corners to help keep everyone on the right trail. Then it is “On-On” to the trail, which many Hashers remember from September when it was raining, with water rising and mud. But now, the trail isn’t muddy anymore because there’s a drought! Japanese Hasher Ichi not only brought his hat, he also bring his umbrella on this occasion! As we walk to the river where we turn and walk straight 3 km to Le Quy Don school, returnee Robert tell us his experience with Saigon Hash a few weeks ago when he got a job in Ho Chi Minh City. We hike past a small field with lots of cows resting under shady trees. Returnee Tiny Tim swiftly got his trustee camera for a good shot – also Hash Virgins who join the first time and surprised to see up close to these animals. As we nearly arrive to the disused billboard shown on the map, Mother Teresa and Liuda go to the wrong side – but it is a short cut to the school. We manage to arrive on the major highway and safely crossed the busy road as Ho Chi Minh folks come and go to Vung Tau. While we almost arrive at end of the trail, we were so focused on story sharing, that we go the wrong way except for Mother Teresa and Liuda. Lucky Basil noticed and notify those who almost gone too far. As we arrive to the bus for our Down Down, Mother Teresa bring out her delicious Russian cuisine while Oggy and Stubble took this chance to go for a swim. Oggy even fished out one small fish during his swim! Others took this chance to get a little sea to their fish and watched the daily activity of a fisherman. While he caught many fish, he also caught some trash in his net – which reminded us to keep environmental friendly. We took the group photo and Basil started the Circle with a welcome message that we arrive on Hash #729 – a milestone to reach 750 in September, and then 800 next year! He then bring out the Hare, which only himself as a Live Hare. Titanic volunteer to rate the trail. He give the trail 7/10 because weather is hot and many remember this trail from last year; he really miss this trail when it was muddy! Then we welcomed Hash Virgins, Ms Huong, whom Basil introduced, and she brought her friend Ms Dung from Ho Chi Minh; and Mr Tuan Anh whom introduced by Ms Trang, so here’s to the Virgins and their “sponsors”. Returnees with excuses are Tiny Tim and Pavel for “Working Offshore”, Titanic “Tour guide his friend”, Ms Ly “Travel”, Robert for “Work” and Blackhawk for “Health”. We are all happy to see them all again! And Basil is only Sinner because as Live Hare he should leave the trail as it was, but decided to mark somewhere and did not do a good job. Before we ended the Circle, an announcement that Saigon Hash (SH3) had come to VTH3 and discussed a joint VTH3-SH3 run on Sunday May 1st. They also welcome any Hasher from VTH3 to join them on staying 1 night in Ho Tram and a second run on Monday May 2nd. After that they will go back to Ho Chi Minh City and try to arrange transportation for anyone wanting to go back to Vung Tau. So we'll do a joint run with SH3 on Sunday May 1st, and if anyone wants to stay with SH3 for Sunday night at Ho Tram and a second run on Monday May 2nd, let Basil know and he will email the names of participants to SH3. No volunteers to set next week’s trail, but some suggest a local run because they will bring their foreign friends to explore the beauty of Vung Tau City - so watch the NEXT RUN box (on our home page) later this week for more details. We’ll meet again on Sunday at 2 pm for 2.30 pm start at Hon Ru Ri cafe/restaurant (formerly known as Sao Bien 4 – about 30 metres east of the Ho May Park cable car complex on Tran Phu). On On!
