BIG MOUNTAIN - "Up close with nature..."

Hares: Perro Caliente, Big Mac
Ailing Hash (caretaker) Hares: Flying Finn, Basil
Hash Flash: Viking.  Group photo: Fot tret
Ringmaster: Basil
Report: Basil

End of rainy season cloud cover promised a cool run as we met at Hon Ru Ri coffee shop for registration.  As we prepared to depart we got a phone call from Hasher Lucy running late.  Basil stayed behind while the rest followed Hare Perro Caliente and we all arranged to meet at Vi Ba street.
When we reached the area to start the chalk-talk, Hare Perro told Hashers that the trail will be split, with those who want the Hard trail follow him, and easy trail go with Big Mac. Basil will help Big Mac and Flying Finn will help Perro Caliente’s group.
We go down through the sawmill with lots of barking dogs as we pass a lot of village houses.  One house particularly that Canadian Visitor Julie wanted to take a photo and the owner allow it.
Big Mac relied on his GPS because he helped set the trail, but no markers so we talk with the locals and they show us the way to the temple where Big Mac remembered the way again.
We walked up the stairs and around the temple on top, then we saw Hare Perro Caliente’s shredded paper markers and soon we followed them.
We reached a junction and decided to go down the mountain to the familiar Cambodian Pagoda, but then we know this is not the place where we arranged to meet with Perro again.  Basil knew the way from there on, although it wasn’t enough time to catch up with Perro’s group, so we gave them a call and arranged to meet again at 241 Tran Phu.
As we came down the stairs thinking we are the first group, we saw the others ahead of us and we all met up again at 241 Tran Phu, but missing 4 Hashers.
Grandma Rita and Stubble turned back to help find 2 Russian Hashers and then took a taxi back to Hon Ru Ri for the Circle.  Ice Water and Fot tret had somehow reached the artillery station, so Basil told them to head down the mountain and also take a taxi to Hon Ru Ri.
When everyone was back at Hon Ru Ri, we held a Circle before the group photo inside the hut with comfortable chairs.  Basil gave a welcome message and congratulated everyone for finishing the trail.  He invited Hares Perro and Big Mac into the Circle and they chose Rita for rating the trail.
She said it was “Excellent, with lots of challenges, exciting, new and good weather trail and each worth 5 fingers,” and with that we got a
25/10 for the Hard Trail!  And Basil gave the easy trail a 9/10.
We welcomed Canadian Visitor Julie to our family; she found out about the Hash through Google and contacted Uncle.  The past few weeks she was sick, but now she happy to make new friends.
Then Returnees, Basil invited Mr Dan who is the Rarest Returnee because Basil forgot his name!
And then Sinners, Ice Water and Fot tret need to explain why they got lost (some Hashers said they might have been busy talking and didn’t see the markers); but their excuse is that they were mesmerised taking photos and when they finished, they were left behind.  So they charged Ailing Hash caretaker Flying Finn for not taking care of the back group!
Then Ms Diep reminded Basil that we should give her a Hash name since she did her 6th run. With such a sudden request, Basil asked the Circle’s opinion, so Viking pointed out that she always dream about “Shrimp” and Perro added that she did today’s hard trail, so her Hash name is “Mountain Shrimp”, which sounds like a delicacy served in the restaurant!
And with that, we closed another week and since there were no volunteers to help set the next trail, everyone needs to pay attention to the NEXT RUN box on the website for more updates.  And Vietnamese celebrate Teacher Day today, so we wish all teachers the best of luck!
We’ll meet again on Sunday, as usual, at Hon Ru Ri: 2 pm for 2.30 pm start – in any weather!
On On!
