Big Mountain
Hares: Secs, Mr.T , Graham
Hash Flasher: Kojak Ringmaster: Boozer Report: Faulty Brakes
The Sunday morning weather was wet and overcast and looked like it would cast a shadow on the afternoon hash, however the early fears were allayed when 43 people turned up to register at Hon Ru Ri.
When registration was complete, people were advised to take their transport to 102 Tran Phu and those remaining were taxied to meet the rest of the group at 102. From here a fleet of taxis ferried the hashers to hem 542 on the other side of big mountain to start the the trail that was set by Mr T and Secs the previous Thursday. Starting at the bottom of the hill and walking past the army barracks with the temple to our right we soon reached the trail on the bottom of the mountain, then proceeding through the forest path we soon reached the mountain path road where we walked for a short time before going down again and into more forest along the foot of the mountain until we reached the lookout point near Ho May Park, now we returned to the steps that takes us back down to 102 Tran Phu our recreation and Down Down location. This week we were minus some of our regular steam, Buddha our resident sommelier was in Paris attending a conference on Beer Storage and Secs had succumbed to a nasty head cold, a result of drinking out of wet glasses. ”Cometh the hour ,Cometh the man”, Kojak took the mantle of Hash Flash and Zidane became our Food and Beverage manager for the day. Time for our customary weekly photo which we send to San Miguel the proud beer sponsors of VTH 3 (Vung Tau Hash House Harriers) and now the circle run by Boozer, we had a name change this week , Strawberry wanted to change her name to Jellyfish, (whose mom is Golden Fish) and we duly obliged. Newcomers or virgins were welcomed and those who transgressed were treated as sinners all receiving the customary dowsing of ice water for their troubles. The trail was awarded 12 out of 10. A more convivial atmosphere you could not find as hashers sat in the front of 102 enjoying Banh Mi, Simons Sambos and quaffing beer and soft drinks . Vung Tau hash is run by people who volunteer their time free of charge to ensure that the Sunday Hash is a success. This involves setting trails in places like Long Son, Minh Dam, Niu Dinh, collecting beer and soft drinks and all that is required to operate a successful weekly Hash. Every one thousand dong collected is accounted for to ensure there are no funds misappropriated and all funds are used to promote farewell parties, Christmas parties and weekends away for our current members. There has been no increase in fees for 7 years,we will shortly introduce a new fee structure.Details of the forthcoming away trail to Coco Beach (24 November) will be announced shortly, we ask all members study carefully to ensure your place on the bus.
